Position Functions:
Promote the implementation of a fully integrated sales and service culture designed to build long-term, multi-product and service relationships that meet the needs of customers, and results in retention of existing relationships and growth of new relationships. Develops and maintains an expertise in our commercial lines of business and acts as a resource to the Commercial Relationship Managers.
Essential Functions:
Commercial Lending Sales Leadership
Provide sales management support and expertise to existing and new commercial relationship managers in meeting sales and service goals through monitoring and participating in sales calling efforts as appropriate.
Act as liaison with the credit and finance departments to ensure complex credits are structured according to policy and priced appropriately to borrower risk. Ensure that loan analysis and presentation are made in accordance with policy in a timely manner. Ensure adequate review by approving parties to meet both customer service standards and bank risk management requirements.
Ensure presentations for each commercial loan include cross-sales of the appropriate commercial and consumer banking products and services to develop a long-term relationship with First Fed as the customer’s primary financial service provider.
Makes personal visits and inspections to properties for collateral. Make sales calls with the Relationship Managers. Develop new business by calling on existing clients and potential new clients; participates in the bank’s Business Development Program.
Develop and maintain a commercial area of expertise beyond the expected expertise in general commercial real estate, multifamily lending, C&I, SBA, and equipment financing. Support relationship managers with lending in this area of expertise as First Fed’s subject matter expert.
Establish, monitor, and hold Relationship Managers accountable to timely monitoring of credit portfolios to meet established loan monitoring and covenant requirements.
Manage the selection, placement, performance, development, promotion, and termination of staff. Coach and mentor staff to achieve individual and institution wide sales and production goals.
Collaborate with CLO in developing growth and profitability goals for the commercial lending areas. Ensure that production and profitability goals for the departments are met on a consistent basis.
Collaborate with the CLO in establishing budgets for the commercial lending areas. Helps to set the strategic direction for commercial lending.
Develop and maintain banking relationships commensurate with the goals and expectations developed by the CLO annually. Ensure all credits are structured, priced, presented and monitored in conformance with bank policies and regulatory guidance.
Advise management of changes in the market as they occur. Seeks out and recommends additional business opportunities within the areas of new programs, new products, new vendor relationships, etc.
Manage production, pipelines, selling efforts and overall sales management. Routinely engage in selling activities that will produce funded commercial loans and referrals to the bank.
Ensure compliance with regulatory developments as they affect commercial lending, particularly in the areas of: Fair Lending, HMDA, CRA, RESPA, Reg B, environmental and other related regulations. Collaborates with the Commercial Operations Manager in updating, maintaining and implementing new loan products and procedures.
Develop and maintain operational excellence while ensuring compliance with all policies, procedures, regulations, federal and state laws.
Cultivate and maintain a professional image with customers, the general public, management, and other association personnel.
Ensure effective support of the institution’s deposit, loan and fee income goals and the development and implementation of strategies to assist lenders in reaching key sales and service goals driven by exceptional customer service.
Maintain regular & predictable attendance.
Perform related duties & responsibilities as required.
Manage state level licensing requirements for the group.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related curriculum, or the equivalent.
Graduate level degree and/or completion of graduate level banking school strongly preferred.
Typically requires 8 to 10 years of demonstrated and successful experience in a bank or financial institution in commercial, residential and/or consumer lending, including 5 or more years of successful experience in sales management.
Demonstrated and strong relationship management and sales skills with demonstrated ability to solicit and retain commercial banking business relationships.
Strong commercial credit structure and analytical skills to ensure complex credits are structured and priced appropriately to borrower risk.
Thorough and demonstrated knowledge of business development techniques, sales development and planning and the ability to assess risk levels of banking relationships in relation to economic, financial and environmental factors.
Solid knowledge of loan structuring and documentation across various business and collateral structures.
A broad level of industry specific competence, strong emotional intelligence and a heightened self-awareness is necessary.
Comprehensive knowledge of lending, deposit products and services, operational functions, and related policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations as well as federal and state laws.
Demonstrated effective experience presenting and working with executive management and regulators.
Demonstrated ability to be collaborative, working in a willing and cooperative manner to achieve success.
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
Valid Washington State driver’s license.
Physical Requirements:
The work requires the ability to operate office machines and equipment, such as personal computers, printers, copying machines and telephones. The work requires the ability to communicate clearly with customers, coworkers, and others in person and on telephones. Work activities involve combinations of sitting/standing for extended periods.
Pay Range
The pay range for this position is $115,998.98 - $197,198.27
A signing bonus, and/or restricted shares of bank stock may be provided as elements of the total compensation package for this position.
The incentive plan for this role is based on commercial production and is paid out quarterly.
This position is designated with a Senior Vice Present officer title and would participate in our Unlimited Leave Plan and Equity Incentive Plan in addition to the Production Incentive.
