Job Overview
NYSERDA seeks an experienced Accountant to join its Finance team with this position’s emphasis on all financial aspects of the Bond Act. This position will interact on a regular basis with NYSERDA’s management team, program staff, and other internal and external stakeholders in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The Staff Accountant will play an integral role in assisting the Finance unit in its day to day, quarterly, and annual accounting activities, translating such into meaningful financial results and projections for management decision making.
Primary Responsibilities
Accounting and reporting for NYS Bond Act activities, Federal and/or NYS grants, including analysis to determine appropriate revenue classification and recording conforming to current GASB standards
Collaborate with NYSERDA programmatic staff in budget development for Bond Act spending and Federal or NYS grant applications
Perform drawdowns of funding or other administrative activities in accordance with approved terms of the underlying agreements
Compile/analyze financial information and participate in the preparation of monthly/quarterly financial reports/statements for internal management and NYSERDA’s Board
Ensure compliance with standards governing grants (OMB Circulars, etc.)
Preparation of the annual SEFA (Statement of Expenditures of Federal Awards)
Initiate and process related journal entries including the reconciliation of various general ledger accounts associated with the NYS Bond Act, Federal and/or State grants
Prepare workpapers and interact with external auditors for related areas of the annual financial statement audit of NYSERDA
Setup and maintain programmatic budgets in NYSERDA’s enterprise information system (PeopleSoft ERP)
Maintain and improve efficiency and effectiveness, make suggestions for streamlining or enhancing accounting processes while ensuring appropriate internal controls
Participate in the development of the NYSERDA wide annual budget, especially pertaining to the NYS Bond Act, Federal, and/or state grants
Work cooperatively with other NYSERDA departments to ensure appropriate matching and reporting of benefits derived from expenditure of funds
Contribute to a culture of excellence grounded in people development, learning, problem solving, and teamwork
Establish positive working relationships across NYSERDA and with key regulators including the Department of Public Service, NYS Division of Budget, and Federal government agencies such as the Dept. of Energy
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; or a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Finance, with a minor in Accounting
Five years accounting experience (governmental entity experience a plus)
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Proficiency in other Microsoft Office applications
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Solid analytical skills; ability to effectively evaluate information and data to make decisions
Strong work ethic and resolute integrity
Skill in managing multiple diverse activities simultaneously
Ability to perform with accuracy and efficiency in a fast-paced environment
Demonstrated successful collaboration across different teams and stakeholders
