Description Robert Half is looking to bring a short-term contract / temporary to hire Staff Accountant with exceptional organization skills and know-how into a growing organization in the Government industry. As a Staff Accountant, you will prepare journal entries, monthly and year-end closings, bank reconciliation, fixed asset maintenance and general ledger reconciliation. You will be responsible for many aspects of internal reporting during the monthly close. In addition, you will support the development and implementation of accounting policies. In addition, you will participate in compliance, interact with our external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits, and review schedules for the reporting processes. This position is very involved as it will produce Cash Flow projections, Budgets, and Financial Statements. Based in the Norfolk, Virginia region, this company offers an engaging and mulit-faceted opportunity where effort is rewarded.
What you get to do every day
Support fixed asset ledger, depreciation, and reconciliation
Maintain capital lease and monthly payment schedules
Prepare monthly balance sheet and income statement analyses for management reporting
Participate in the month end, quarter end and year end closing process including monthly financial close workbook preparation
Ad-hoc reporting and special projects, as needed
Take part the in implementation and adherence to internal controls and accounting procedures, ensuring compliance with GAAP
Report on a wide variety of financial data and communicate it in a useful and understandable manner
Conduct month end close, journal entries, without supervision
Be a part of various department-wide initiatives
Prepare complex journal entries and account reconciliations including but not limited to cash, prepaid expenses and payroll Requirements - BA/BS or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or Economics
Exceptional analytical, quantitative and social skills
Working knowledge of spreadsheets and databases
Ability to thrive in a dynamic, high pressure environment, to prioritize deals and adapt to quick changes while remaining diligent
Microsoft Excel experience
Proficiency in account reconciliation
Solid understanding of general ledger
Financial reporting experience preferred
Mature organizational, written and verbal communication skills
Dedication and requisite skills to meet critical business deadlines
Experience with ERP systems
3+ years of recent and relevant accounting experience
Self-starter, ability to identify issues and resolve problems
Attention to detail and demonstrated ability to follow standard procedures is a requirement
Competent with spreadsheets and databases
