Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Sr. Speech Pathologist for the Douglass Developmental Disabilities Center (DDDC). This position reports to the Principal of the DDDC.Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Responsible for providing assessment of the communication needs of the students enrolled at the DDDC.
  • Assesses each student's communication abilities using a variety of standardized measures for program development, develops appropriate communication programming, consisting of goal planning and program writing and implements these programs through specific therapeutic intervention.
  • Consults with parents, teachers, and school district Child Study Teams to insure coordination and consistency of identified goals in the student's Individual Educational Plans.

  Qualifications

  

Minimum Education and Experience
  • A Master's degree in speech pathology.
  • Two years of experience to include experience with students with autism.

  • The NJ Department of Education requires the applicant to hold a master's or higher degree in speech-language pathology, or its equivalent, from a regionally accredited college/university and the SPEECH LANGUAGE SPECIALIST STANDARD CERTIFICATE (ENDORSEMENT CODE: 3462) to provide service as a speech-language specialist in all public schools.

  • Clinical experience with students with autism.
  • Experience with applied behavior analysis with a team approach to planning and service delivery.
  • Solid interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledgeable in the implementation of augmentative and alternative communication.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence and NJ State Licensure in Speech Pathology.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Requires eligibility for New Jersey certification for Speech-Language Specialist/Speech
  • Requires good communication and interpersonal skills, and computer literacy.
Equipment Utilized
  • Computer skills including Word Processing, Data Base, Spreadsheets, and Graphing software, and commercially made educational materials (i.e., standardized tests, language programs).
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Employee must be physically active and be on feet most of the da y. Duties may involve running and playing active games with individuals with autism (ages 3 1/2 - 21 years or adults), driving vans or other vehicles. Following training must be physically capable of safely providing crisis management techniques including restraining, lifting, blocking individuals with challenging behavior.
  • Ability to work in crowded and moderately noisy conditions with children, adolescents, adults, and staff moving about.
Special Conditions
  • Selected candidates will be subject to a criminal history background check. In accordance with New Jersey State law, applicants must agree to undergo and authorize the University to conduct fingerprint, criminal history and/or child abuse record checks with various law enforcement agencies, including, but not limited to: the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Identification Division and/or the New Jersey Division of State Police, Bureau of Identification. Applicants must also assume any costs incurred by the University associated with the background investigations, whether required by statute or not.
  • In accordance with state mandated requirements, a Mantoux test will be administered to the successful applicant to verify the absence of tuberculosis. In addition, the successful applicant, at the cost of the University, will be required to be inoculated against Hepatitis B unless the successful applicant waives this vaccination in writing.
