This position is covered by the Partnership Agreement between the State ofColorado and Colorado Workers for Innovative and New Solutions (COWins).
New employees to the State will be paid biweekly. There are 26 biweekly payperiods in a year.

DESCRIPTION OF JOB:
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is looking for a Lube/TireEquipment Mechanic position in our Empire location. You will perform routinepreventative maintenance and tire repairs/replacements to light and heavytrucks and specialized snow, ice, and road repair equipment. You will assistwith ensuring that CDOT's equipment fleet is in safe operating conditionfollowing Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) and CDOT rules andpolicies.
The preventative maintenance services will include various systems that arefound on pieces of heavy equipment such as engine/transmissions, coolingsystems, brake systems, fuel systems, and hydraulic systems. Vehicles andequipment include, but are not limited to, 10-ton tandem snowplows,tractor-trailers, bulldozers, motor graders, paving machines, 6X6 and 4X4trucks, snow blowers and 1 ton trucks. Safety and compliance inspectionsrequired by state and federal law. This position is often called upon toreport to an alternate location when workflow requires it. Other job dutiesas assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years of progressively responsible experience in equipment and/or Class4-8 preventative maintenance or repair, which must include at least one yearof experience dismounting, mounting, patching, and/or changing tires.Substitutions:Satisfactory completion of a formalized apprenticeship program, or higherlevel non-correspondence coursework from an accredited college or technicalschool, beyond high school, in automotive and diesel equipment mechanics orheavy equipment mechanics may be substituted for the required generalexperience. Unofficial transcripts or a copy of your certificate of completionare required if substituting this education for experience and may be uploadedwithin your online application.
Stronger candidates will be those that demonstrate depth and breadth of skilland ability, through a combination of professional experience and formaltraining, to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of thisposition.

Required to obtain a Colorado Commercial Driver's License Class A or B with norestrictions on airbrakes within 3-6 months of hire.May be required to pass a controlled substance test (i.e. drug test), and DOTphysical through our medical provider.
Required to be on-call and to perform shift work
Essential Services Designation - Required to report without delay orinterruption to provide essential or emergency services to ensure health,safety, and welfare.
May be required to live within thirty (30) minutes' driving time in normalweather conditions to be able to respond in a timely manner after beingnotified to report to work.
