Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband network connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.As a Sr. Software Development Engineer you will own the development, implementation, and test of the Kuiper Telemetry and Monitoring system known as "Atlas". Atlas owns software services that receive telemetry data from Kuiper devices - such as the satellites themselves - and gives internal engineering and operational teams the ability to analyze, visualize and automatically monitor this data.You will work with engineering teams across terrestrial and space systems, to understand how they function, and deliver telemetry and monitoring services that enable the hands-off operation of the Kuiper fleet. Because of the scale of the mission, you will be focused on driving automation and building for scale.The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, have strong organizational skills, able to work independently, juggle multiple tasks at once, and maintain professionalism under pressure. You should have deep knowledge of software engineering practices, understand how software and hardware systems interact, and can drive the design and implementation of distributed services within complex systems.Familiarity with space systems is not required.Export Control Requirement:Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.Key job responsibilities- Lead the design and analysis of distributed software systems.- Develop cloud native software systems in Go, Java, Python, or other modern languages.- Utilize AWS to build highly available and performant services.- Write and maintain architecture documentation for all service components.- Lead by example, mentor and support your team and org.We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:Redmond, WA, USA- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalentOur compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $134,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market.
