  Description

  Are you skilled in building and deploying science models that drive significant bottom-line results, and passionate about leading a dynamic team to support one of Amazon’s fastest growing businesses?

  The Supply Chain Optimization Technologies (SCOT) team is looking for a Sr. Manager of Applied Science to lead a multifunctional team of 15+ people. The team's mandate is to create cutting-edge solutions that determine the optimal product assortment for our ultra-fast delivery options (same day and within hours). The puzzle is strategically selecting products that optimize growth and profitability, considering customer preferences for speedy delivery, amidst a web of operational and behavioral constraints.

  With the Sub-Same Day program experiencing phenomenal growth – a highlight in the recent All Amazon meeting, and given how integral assortment decisions are to maximizing the limited capacity for the SSD network, this role has a high degree of visibility with senior leaders. This is a great opportunity for an experienced senior manager to grow their network of L8/L10 stakeholders and advance their career.

  This role leads a genuinely multifunctional team - scientists, engineers, product managers, so we're open to seasoned L7 candidates from other technical job families as well.

  Key job responsibilities

  Create, maintain, and deploy science models that publish optimal product assortment decisions to multiple downstream systems (e.g. buying and inventory placement)

  Work in tandem with technical and business stakeholders to design a strategic roadmap, focusing on innovative solutions that achieve ambitious objectives in enhancing profitability and overall growth

  Effectively communicate complex technical concepts and team achievements to senior leadership and non-technical audiences, ensuring clarity and understanding

  Advocate for and implement technical best practices, striking a balance between maintaining high operational standards and fostering rapid innovation

  Actively promote career advancement and skill development within the team, nurturing emerging talent in science, engineering, and product management

  Basic Qualifications

  Graduate degree in STEM field

  3+ years of experience leading a technical team - scientists, engineers, and/or technical product managers

  5+ years of experience building complex scientific models and systems for business application

  Knowledge of AI/ML topics, especially as it relates to optimization, predictive analytics, and causality

  Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts and solutions to all levels of the organization

  Preferred Qualifications

  PhD in a quantitative field (e.g. Computer Science, Mathematics, AI/ML)

  5+ years leading large teams (including managers of managers) of technical professionals

  Experience with supply chain concepts, especially optimization around inventory and assortment decisions

  Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $175,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $340,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
