　　Outbound Communications own the worldwide charter for delighting our customers with timely, relevant notifications (email, mobile, SMS and other channels) to drive awareness and discovery of Amazon’s products and services. We meet customers at their channel of preference with the most relevant content at the right time and frequency. We directly create and operate marketing campaigns, and we have also enabled select partner teams to build programs by reusing and extending our infrastructure. We optimize for customers to receive the most relevant and engaging content across all of Amazon worldwide, and apply the appropriate guardrails to ensure a consistent and high-quality CX.

　　Outbound Communications seek a Sr Manager of Applied Science with strong leadership and communication skills to join our team and head the combined Science and Analytics team. You will lead a team of machine learning scientists, data scientists, and BIEs to help us discover and define problems, and apply quantitative solutions to problems to impact marketing at Amazon. You will define new metrics to impact the efficiency and effectiveness of our channel and our programs. You will be working with cutting edge technologies that enable big data and parallelizable algorithms. You will play an active role in translating business and functional requirements into concrete deliverables. You will work closely with product management and the software development team to put solutions into production.

　　Key job responsibilities

　　Set the science and analytics vision for Outbound Communications

　　Apply business judgement to identify opportunities and develop science strategies

　　Work collaboratively and effectively with engineering and business partners to build algorithms and models for message selection, content personalization, and message targeting

　　Hire and grow a talented team of science and analytics leaders

　　Influence, collaborate, and communicate effectively with other engineering, science, and business leaders

　　Communicate scientific solution and insights effectively to a non-scientific audience

　　Develop metrics and mechanisms to audit channel and program quality and develop best practices

　　Basic Qualifications

　　5+ years of exceptional hands-on experience in building quantitative solutions.

　　5+ years of experience managing teams of machine learning, data science professionals and/or engineers

　　3+ years of experience developing algorithms or building machine learning models for business applications.

　　PhD or MS degree in Engineering, Technology, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Mathematics or related quantitative / engineering field.

　　Excellent communication skills and management and leadership experience in applying quantitative solutions. Having an ability to explain analytical concepts to a non-technical audience is a must.

　　Prototyping skills (e.g., R/Python)

　　Preferred Qualifications

　　5+ years of experience building machine learning and analytic applications.

　　Experience in reinforcement learning and natural language processing

　　PhD and 7+ years of relevant industry or academic research experience

　　Advanced knowledge of big data analytics technology

　　Skills with Java, C++ (or other high-level programming language) as well as R, MATLAB, Python (or similar scripting language)

　　Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $175,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $340,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
