About Sr Environmental Program Manager , Extended Producer Responsibility

  Description

Amazon is looking for a Senior Program Manager to lead Extended Producer Responsibility compliance for our selling partners. Extended Producer Responsibility is an environmental protection policy under which manufacturers, producers and distributors take responsibility for their products and packaging at their end of life, by establishing systems to collect and recycle post-consumer waste.

The EPR compliance team ensures that Amazon transactions are collected and recycled properly. The team coordinates the aspects of product transactions that are regulated, such as shipping packaging, product recycling, information to customers, etc. This involves creating programs to fulfill recycling requirements across multiple jurisdictions, and monitoring selling partner compliance. The team is also responsible for keeping Amazon customers aware of the recycling initiatives available.

This role requires to coordinate and direct efforts across multiple business teams to enable environmental compliance processes. The Senior Program Manager will be specifically responsible for driving compliance programs for selling partners in EU. They will develop a strategy and mechanisms to support regulatory compliance, and provide guidance for business teams and selling partners. The individual will lead regulatory analyses, establish and monitor metrics, and guide business teams in implementation of Amazon's recycling programs. They will work with internal and external partners that include government entities, consultants, recycling companies, business leaders and other key stakeholders.

The ideal candidate must have excellent communication skills, strong environmental regulatory knowledge, particularly with respect to Extended Producer Responsibility regulations and standards, demonstrated success in program management, and experience leading teams in complex and technical projects. They must be comfortable in different roles, sometimes supporting, sometimes leading and have the ability to “roll up their sleeves” to drive initiatives to completion.

  Key job responsibilities

Design, coordinate and launch new EPR programs to respond to legal requirements in the EU, using hard data and evidence to drive decision-making.

Create a strategic roadmap that covers both short and long term deliverables and initiatives that drive recycling compliance goals.

Interact with multiple stakeholders including government agencies, recyclers, consultants to communicate on operations and evaluate risks.

Identify and prioritize regulatory requirements, and influence roadmaps from partner teams, where necessary.

Coordinate with technical teams across time zones to develop new mechanisms that enable the program team to move faster and more effectively.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

  Luxembourg, LUX

  Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Economics, Engineering, Environment or related technical or quantitative field.

Experience in regulatory compliance management, project management, or regulatory consulting.

Experience working cross-functionally with technical and non-technical individuals.

Experience prioritizing and managing a dynamic business environment.

Strong analytical thinking and problem solving, ability to convert strategy to operation and sensitivity to details.

  Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Environment or related technical or quantitative field.

Experience and knowledge of EU environmental regulations, preferably of Extended Producer Responsibility.

Experience in interacting with stakeholders (regulatory bodies, suppliers), and driving analyses using quantitative and qualitative data.

Experience in a fast paced, changing/growing organization.

Ability to distill complex and ambiguous subjects into clear action plans.
