About Sr Colo Design Standards Engineer - Controls, Colocation Design Standards

  Description

We are seeking a seasoned engineer with significant data center experience to work in the Colocation Design Standards Team. In this role, you will drive resilience, standards, consistency, and constant improvement in our colocation fleet of data centers globally.

This role has global impact. Our goal is to identify the candidate that has well developed data center technical knowledge and ideally coupled with extensive colocation experience. In this role, the engineer will use their subject matter expertise to drive continuous improvement. If you have experience developing global design standards and working within a broad design and construction infrastructure environment, we’d love for you to apply.

As a Colo Design Standards Engineer you will be responsible for driving design and availability consistency across our colocation data centers. You will work with leaders and Principal Engineers in our Colo engineering team and in the wider global engineering teams to set and update standards for colocation capacity. You will work directly with our colocation engineering teams in APAC, AMER and the Americas, and leverage global relationships with our colocation partners to deliver against these standards.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations: Frankfurt, Dublin, London, Madrid, Zaragoza, Paris, Milan, Zurich.

  Key job responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain global consistent colocation design standards to drive equivalent resilience in colocation data centers to AWS owned sites.

  • Support the deployment of new AWS products in colocation data centers in a consistent way.

  • Input into global design standards and generational data center template designs.

  • Support as required regional colo engineering teams to review and accept proposed changes to the site-specific infrastructure against our data center standards, and document Accepted Deviations when appropriate.

  • Work with our global colocation partners to drive consistent standard solutions to expedite review processes and drive cost efficiency.

  • Set up global strategies to deploy specific products or designs, and drive key global colocation initiatives.

  • Documentation, release and management of design guides, standards, specifications and procedures.

  • 25% international travel.

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

  About the team

The Colocation Design Standards (CoDeS) team drives the global standardization of technical solutions for AWS Colocation (colo) sites. The team owns the creation and update of engineering standards for colo sites, following the performance goals set in AWS Basis of Design (BoD) and creating those for colocation specific technology. The team also provides technical support for AWS product colo readiness to enable efficient deployment. CoDeS global standardization of technical designs objectives is key to enable more efficient and consistent capacity ingestion for the delivery teams.

  Diverse Experiences

AWS values diverse experiences. Even if you do not meet all of the qualifications and skills listed in the job description, we encourage candidates to apply. If your career is just starting, hasn’t followed a traditional path, or includes alternative experiences, don’t let it stop you from applying.
