  Job ID359199 LocationTwin Cities Job FamilyEducation-General Full/Part TimePart-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Job Code9754 Employee ClassAcad Prof and Admin About the Job Position Overview: The Department of Psychology in the College of Liberal Arts is accepting applications for single course and part-time teaching specialists to teach courses that may occur in Spring 2024 (January 11, 2023 - May 26, 2024). The Psychology Department occasionally needs teaching specialists to teach courses that cannot be staffed by regular faculty members or graduate students. This search will establish a "pool" of teaching specialists if such openings occur during the 2023/24 academic year. Applicants may be selected from this pool on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year. Teaching may be for day, evening or online courses. Appointments may or may not be renewable based on need, funding, and performance. We welcome candidates whose experience in teaching and research has prepared them to contribute to the Psychology Department's commitment to working with a diverse student population, and in building inclusivity, diversity, and equity into their courses. Responsibilities: Provide classroom teaching for lab/discussion sections from Psychology courses, which may include: Psy 1001 Introduction to Psychology; Psy 3001W Introduction to Research Methods; Psy 3801 Introduction to Psychological Data Analysis; Psy 3901W/3902W/3903W Capstone in Psychology. Attend weekly TA training meetings, graduate student coursework and provide feedback. Participate in minor course development, as needed Proctor exams. Respond in a timely fashion to student issues and Department requests. Resolve student and classroom issues in consultation with the course instructor and Department. Qualifications Required Qualifications: BA or BS in Psychology or related field. Masters degree is normally required. The appointee is not required to have the same credentials expected for faculty, but must have demonstrated competence to teach the course material. Professional and/or teaching experience related to assigned instructional responsibilities may be required. Strong communication and presentation skills and demonstrated cultural competence Expertise with psychological concepts applicable to assigned course(s). Preferred Qualifications: Prior teaching or research experience in psychology or a related field. Experience with Canvas and online learning. Demonstrated commitment to teaching a diverse student population. About the Department About the Department of Psychology The Department of Psychology is one of the largest departments within the College of Liberal Arts, and is a highly ranked department nationally. Currently, the department has 50 core faculty, 70+ staff, 130 graduate students, and it supports the largest number of undergraduate majors of any academic program on the UMN Twin Cities campus. Additionally, the department has $40 million or more in active research funding at any given time (the majority from NIH), spread across 70 or more projects.
