Position Summary:
Members of the Spiritual Care Team provide emotional/spiritual care, crisis intervention, conflict management, and support to patients, their families, and to staff, through on-call coverage, usually overnight and on weekends, for Carle Health-Proctor Campus. In healthcare: chaplains are key resources engaged in supporting the emotional / spiritual needs of patients, their families, and healthcare staff. These supportive activities may focus on those with established faith traditions and practices, or those with no religious beliefs, but who have emotional reactions to their personal/medical situations. These supportive efforts include compassionate response to all expressions of diversity
Qualifications:
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS A minimum of Church or Denominational training that has led to Certification, Licensure, or Ordination as accepted by one's faith tradition OR Master's Degree in the field(s) of theology/religion from an accredited Seminary or School of Theology AND Annually, a letter of good standing will be provided to leader from one's faith tradition. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Minimum of two - three years experience in congregational ministry, or one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE). Candidate may be hired with agreement to take one-unit CPE, when ministry experience is lacking. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position. Essential Functions:
Triages and prioritize critical visits and clinical rounds priorities and completes clinical rounds at the start of each on-call shift. Completes consult requests. Completes other visit requests. Completes appropriate documentation in the EMR for all patient care activities. Arranges for Sacramental ministry by area Priests and Eucharistic ministers as needed / desired. Makes appropriate referrals to area faith groups as needed / desired by patient / family. Partners with nursing to enhance the emotional / spiritual care of patients and families. Responds in support of: Arrests Deaths STEMI calls Withdrawal of Life Support situations Fetal Deaths that occur in the ED Other medical emergencies as requested. Respond to overhead pages for RRT calls and Stroke calls when in the building doing rounds or attending to other clinical needs. Responds to crisis calls as quickly as appropriate. Communicates when they will be available to respond and triages competing clinical needs effectively when handling multiple cases. Responds to all calls and is present where needed to assist within 30 minutes. Responds appropriately to all requests for patient / family / staff support from nursing, physicians, or other care givers. Supports staff after medical crisis events or workplace violence events either: Through Care & Share efforts Or by triggering the CISM team for critical incident event response. Utilizes on-call back-up resource person for consultation and clinical guidance when needed and appropriate
Participates in department meetings and projects. Meets shift report deadlines for Kronos and time keeping needs. Remains current on all department policies and procedures. Participates actively in shift coverage conversations and responds to department emails within a reasonable timeframe. Completes all annual education in a timely manner. Completes reading, professional development, or other additional responsibilities as assigned. Provides a letter of endorsement annually verifying one's good standing with one's faith tradition.
Completes annual expansion of one's working knowledge of the values and practices of other faith tradition, ethnic, or lifestyle groups. Offers support that is respectful and meaningful to those specific groups or make a referral to someone within that group, with patient permission. Respects all persons / expressions of diversity. Uses department resources for self-care and to better understand how one's personal spirituality impacts their clinical performance.
