Description
Under general direction of the Sports Manager, the Sports Sales Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, promoting, and implementing a variety of sports sales efforts & events that will meet the needs and desires of Event Rights Holders to encourage hotel room stays by increasing the number of events hosted in the city, growing current event attendance and creating new sports events as needed.
Principal Duties
Responsible for coordinating sports sales efforts and events, in conjunction with the Sports Manager; and for delivering an unparalleled guest experience throughout all stages of the sales process from inquiry to on-going post-event follow-up to ensure repeat business and referrals.
Foster new client opportunities via outbound efforts and networking to include but not limited to, recruiting for events through relationship building with Event Rights Holders; conducting sales calls; and promoting, pursuing and biding on events to host in College Station.
Responsible for overseeing and coordinating the work activities of interns or part-time/seasonal staff which includes the following: interviewing, supervising, training, motivating, and evaluating performance; working with employees to correct deficiencies; identifying and resolving employee concerns and/or problems; directing work; and making hiring, terminating and disciplinary decisions or recommendations.
Create and develop new events with an emphasis on visitor attendees by partnering with local, regional, National and international organizations.
Foster growth in existing events by strategizing and implementing innovative ideas to encourage additional attendees.
Work in collaboration with other sports staff to provide all logistics and a high-quality experience for each event.
Plan and coordinate advertising, news releases, and public service announcements for sports events and activities, to also include, participating in on-camera media interviews and assisting with other promotional sports related communications.
Prepare and manage cost center budget and achieve sales and revenue goals.
Represent the department by serving on internal and external committees and boards as requested; attending tradeshows and marketplaces; maintaining partnerships with Event Rights Holders; and providing community liaison services for coordinating the activities and operations of sports-related events and activities.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Event Management, Hospitality, or related field and three (3) years experience related to area of assignment, including supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid Texas Driver’s License. Knowledge of planning and program development. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other city employees and the public. Available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.
Preferred:
Volunteer recruitment experience Community relations experience. Event recruitment experience.
