Looking for a fun and exciting internship? The Sports Development & Athletics division of the Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources department has a great opportunity for you! This internship will give you experience in the athletics world through a variety of functions such as insect pest, distress and disease identification in athletic turf, assessment of field conditions, learning how to use sports equipment. (i.e. clay infield groomer, mowers, cultural practice equipment.) Experience in this fast-paced environment will help you to gain valuable experience working with division staff in the Athletics Maintenance department. The internship is perfect for students majoring in Sports Management, physical education, or the golf course industry and serves as a great pathway to future employment. Our intern will develop skills that can be used at other organizations such as working in a team environment, problem solving, self-management and creative thinking. Interns will have lots of opportunities to build their resume during this experience!

Your internship will include impactful hands-on work within a department, networking, professional development, and building long lasting connections with other interns, mentors, and Sarasota County team members.
Department Responsibilities:
Display leadership ability in planning and completing maintenance tasks while assisting with the implementation of youth and adult athletic activities for the Sports Development & Athletics division.
Provide the highest level of customer service to participants.
Complete work orders in our computerized maintenance tracking system.
Attend meetings that include division staff meetings, staff trainings and department meetings.
Establish and maintain planning and working relationships with community groups.
Work directly with the Athletic Supervisor and use creative thinking and problem-solving skills throughout the summer.
Perform related work as required.
Special projects and renovations to athletic fields.
Collaborate with your department colleagues to make and influence real changes.
Internship Program Responsibilities:
A presentation to the County Administrator and other County Leadership staff is required at the close of the internship program.
Participate in all organized intern events and trainings.

About You
Minimum Qualifications:
At least 18 years old, or age 16 with parental consent.
High school diploma, or equivalent (if applicable).
Eligible to work in the United States – we love local, national, and international students!
Active student, or graduated August 2023 or later.
About Everything Else
Program Dates: The 2024 internship program will begin on May 20, 2024 and end on August 9, 2024.
Internship Hours: 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; some departments vary.
Pay Range: $13 per hour (high school student) up to $20 per hour (Grad/Masters student), based on your credit hours earned.
