The opportunity
Are you passionate about software quality and test automation? The Manulife Insurance Technology team is seeking a leader, experienced and motivated Software/Mainframe Quality Engineer who is self-directed with learning agility who will develop automation scripts using zOS connect, apply standard processes to mainframe testing and implement testing in a dynamic and fast paced environment.
As a Software Quality Engineer, you will:
Review and translate requirements, specifications, and technical design documents to provide meaningful feedback to product developers
Assist identifying and completing the team’s testing automation strategy
Identify, build, maintain and implement automated tests scripts to ensure quality and coverage for functionality, integration, regression, end to end and performance
Maintain, evolve, and continually improve automated test scripts and coverage using a variety of automation tools and technologies
Complete manual tests that could not be automated on the mainframe
Test microservices across various architectures such as dot net core.
Test Rest API services
Build and complete defects reports
Analyze defects and ensure that system tests are successfully completed, documented and problems are resolved
Build test cases and develop test strategies
Adhere to Quality Engineer standards and best processes
Help developers write good and repeatable unit tests
Participate in code reviews, share skills and techniques with others
Look for root cause of the error (bug) and suggest solutions
Collaborate with Developers, Quality Engineers, Technical Analysts, business staff and external 3rd party vendors using Agile methodologies
What we are looking for Qualifications
5+ years Quality Engineer experience
Experience with: Cobol, DB2, CICS, VSAM, JCL, SAS, Endevor and Control-M
2-5 years of proven experience specifically with Mainframe background
Strong experience with CLAS and Ingenium systems
Experience with ZOS Connect is a strong asset
Familiar with Automation technologies such as VB Script, Selenium, DevTest, TestNG, Robot, Perfecto, SOAP UI, Jenkins, Cucumber, Meter, Postman and other testing frameworks and tools
Possesses strong testing technology/industry knowledge
Experience with Automation technologies such as Jenkins and other open-source testing frameworks
Experience with Agile practices and tools such as JIRA and Confluence
Experience writing sophisticated testing strategy
Ability to analyze information and draw accurate conclusions and test reports
Self-directed, manage priorities and takes ownership
Problem solving skills
Strong collaboration skills
Excellent communication skills
BS or MS in Computer Science preferred or equivalent professional experience Assets
Knowledge and experience with DevOps, Continuous Integration, Continuous Deployment, and other approaches to accelerate the delivery
Knowledge of Azure, Postman
Experience mentoring/coaching junior team members on automation

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.
Primary Location
Waterloo, Ontario
Salary range is expected to be between
$74,270.00 CAD - $137,930.00 CAD
