About Software Development Manager - Project Kuiper, Kuiper - Customer Terminals

  Description

  Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

  Have you wanted an opportunity to develop the software applications and services for an advanced global internet connectivity service? The Kuiper Customer Terminal team owns all the software and services that operates on a Customer Terminal device. Our team owns developing the architecture, solutions & roadmap for managing the embedded systems that operate on the device, the applications that will ensure optimal power management and thermal protection, over the air updates and a multitude other features. As the SDM of the team, you will lead a team of engineers to solve these problems while developing the team and maintaining a high bar for delivery quality.

  Export Control Requirement

  Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

  Key job responsibilities

  Own features end to end. Almost all features in the team work on hardware systems and testing on hardware is a must. This level of ownership should be driven into your team as well.

  Aid in the design and delivery of software components, applications and services.

  Develop the technical strategy to deliver these experiences at scale globally

  Work with our peer teams and stakeholders to design suitable software systems and interfaces to fulfill the customer needs.

  Develop a strategic plan for the growth of the team, both from a software services and organization perspective.

  Hire & Develop a diverse team of software engineers.

  Collaborate with your fellow team members to form a strong foundation for a software organization in Project Kuiper.

  Help on-board and mentor new team members.

  A day in the life

  You will work with Product Management and Business Stakeholders on defining the roadmap for Kuiper's customer lifecycle. You will own solving this for multiple customer segments and building software that is flexible for many different customers and countries.

  We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

  Redmond, WA, USA

  Basic Qualifications

  3+ years of engineering team management experience

  7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

  3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

  Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  Experience partnering with product or program management teams

  Preferred Qualifications

  Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

  Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $148,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
