Manager, SRE Cloud Development
LOCATION: Waterloo, Canada
Position Summary
The Manager, SRE Cloud Development role is responsible for driving development and deployment automation Cloud services and infrastructure for the Digital First Banking business unit. The Manager will provide strategy and direction in the practice of development & agile delivery for 3 globally distributed SCRUM teams.
This position reports to the Executive Director, Site Reliability Engineering Digital First Banking, and works with Software Engineering, Enterprise Architecture, Platform Architecture and NCR’s Global – SRE team to ensure collaboration across all teams is facilitated.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software engineering, Cloud technologies, DevOps and CI/CD, workflow automation, automated testing. Additionally a background in ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change, Monitoring) both in theory and in practice. The candidate should be able to demonstrate knowledge of key processes and tools associated with Agile (sAFE, SCRUM, etc) have experience in running teams larger than 20 and experience in managing financial aspects of a department.
Position responsibilities:
Ensure a “Cloud Ready” approach is taken software engineering practices
Accountable the development and delivery of features to enable Cloud deployment and resource automation
Lead and mature the practice of software engineering, DevOps and test automation.
Drive Software Development in terms of automating repeatable Operations tasks (TOIL)
Drive continuous improvement in the engineering practice, with an eye on metrics and KPIs
Enable communications to both technical and business/Exec facing audiences in the spirit of transparency.
Scaling teams to meet business demands, including partnership with 3rd parties
Accountable hiring, mentoring and leadership of the software engineers in the team, ranging from Jr to Sr experience levels
Partner with the Engineering product teams in the delivery of automating their deployments and configurations
Accountable for all continuous improvement activities including code refactoring, technical debt, defect leakage
This position works closely with NCR’s Global – SRE team within NCR Chief Technology Office
that guide the overall SRE strategy and direction for NCR.
Basic Requirements
BA/BS in Computer Science, MIS or related discipline
10+ years of Software Engineering/Development experience
5+ Years experience in leadership of software development teams
Exposure/experience with SRE as a discipline
3+ years experience with Google , AWS and/or Azure cloud platforms and technologies (IaaS, SaaS and PaaS)
5+ years in Cloud deployment design with cost impact analysis and optimization
5+ years experience and knowledge of CI/CD pipelines
Exposure to datacenter technology, architecture, and common terminology and patterns
3+ years in or exposure to Project Management, Agile delivery etc
Demonstrated history of innovative thinking and delivery, including disruptive innovation
3+ years hands on experience in utilizing modern operations tools like ServiceNow, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Splunk and similar.
Highly organized
Understanding of and experience with cloud native databases such in GCP, AWS and Azure
Excellent communication, meeting facilitation and listening skills
Strong negotiation, team working and interpersonal skills
Proficient with PowerPoint, Word and Excel
Ability to travel both domestically and internationality if needed (note: should be minimal travel for this position)
Preferred Requirements
Working knowledge of Terraform scripting to develop “infrastructure as code”
Working knowledge of other cloud automation tools like Ansible, Rundeck, and Chef
System Admin level experience in ServiceNow/Dynatrace/AppDynamics etc
