Newshub is the premiere news brand for Warner Bros. Discovery ANZ. It delivers world-class local and international news aimed primarily at a New Zealand audience across linear broadcast and digital platforms.
Overview
We're looking for a talented producer who has a nose for a good story, who understands the commercial requirements of a fast-paced television show. This is a crucial part of Discovery's news offering for New Zealand viewers.
This is a vital role that's responsible for setting up news interviews for AM. You will be required to find stories and talent under the direction of senior producers, ensuring that all elements of the show are ready for the morning production.
Key Responsibilities
Identify stories and content for the show to cover.Work cohesively with the Executive Producer, Associate EP, and Senior Set Up Producer.Set up interviews for the next day's shows, including identifying stories, sourcing talent, pre-interviewing and booking guests.Ensure show content is vibrant and up-to- date through story selection.Ensure breaking news coverage plans are in place for the next day's show and plans are effectively communicated to the show's team and wider newsroom.Collaborate with the wider newsroom.Deliver end to end booking of elements required to produce segments e.g. camera crews/satellite bookings/make-up etc.Complete all production elements for segments - editing b-roll, creating and inputting graphics etc.Write and cut teasers and promos, as required.Build, re-work, and refine the show rundown for the next day, including content and talent details.Produce accurate and concise background and research notes for presenters and morning staff on coverage plans and interview subjects.Assist in preparing and maintaining the programme news diary.Generate fresh interview and story ideas for future programmes.Ensure all details for pre-planned event coverage are in place for next day's show.Keep the newsroom informed of programme interview and specialist talk topic plans.Communicate with the producers, presenters and news team regarding changing elements in the show, breaking news etc.Update programme's online and social media platforms as and when required.Contribute to the programme's digital platforms, as required.The Employee shall ensure they are familiar with the Employer's health and safety policies and procedures, and any modifications to those policies and procedures that may be introduced from time to time.Carry out your work safely and without endangering or causing harm to yourself, fellow staff members, contractors, customers, visitors, or the general public.
Qualities Required
Excellent phone manner, comfortable cold calling potential interview guests.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Proven ability to work well in a team and to take direction.A generous, warm team member.Continually seeks opportunities to improve programme content and production.Passionate about news.Flexibility to work varied shifts and hours if required.Maintains excellent collaborative and professional relationships with the programme team, wider newsroom and broader business.A flair for tapping into and recognising "water cooler" or "talkback" topics.Ability to work to tight deadlines and perform effectively under pressure.Close attention to detail.Effective communicator both internally and externally.
