Job Description
The Sensory Scientist / Scientist I, R&D position sits within the Sensory Science group in the R&D Enabling Technologies division at IFF in St. Louis, MO. We are a vibrant research group with expertise in Sensory Science, Neuroscience, Consumer Science, and hardware/software prototyping. We work with all functions of the business providing guidance and support in the development of flavors, fragrances, and delivery technologies through a combination of explicit and implicit measurement methodologies.
As a Sensory panel leader, within the R&D Sensory Science team, you will be responsible for running regular tests with a descriptive panel to support R&D and innovation projects. You will also be responsible for leading daily functions for a high performing sensory lab as well as prepare for and conduct sensory testing.
The Sensory Panel leader executes assigned sensory related activities with supervision and works closely with the Sensory team.
The main responsibility is the mange the day-to-day activities of the descriptive panel. Tasks include but are not limited to:
Leading panel discussion sessions.
Panel monitoring, performance, and feedback during training before testing.
Panel Maintenance / calibration test.
Managing panelist schedules.
Planning and execution of recruitment, screening, and training of new panelists.
Proactive planning of training structure/protocol in close communication with Sensory Scientist.
Setting up daily panel session with needed supplies.
Designing ballots in sensory software. i.e. EyeQuestion.
Job Requirements
As the tasks require regular communication and coordination with the sensory team as well as other
departments you must possess effective communication and team building skills.
BS degree in Food Science or similar fields (biology, chemistry, psychology).
Possess a fundamental understanding of food and food composition and preparation.
Have strong organizational and time management skills.
Have the ability to work as an active team member as well as independently.
Are willing to participate and contribute to team-based problem salving of manufacturing quality events/or issues.
Are knowledgeable about the tests and analysis performed in the sensory department.
