Senior Systems Architects are responsible for ensuring efficient workflow within their respective departments by providing Information Technology (IT) standards and guidelines that are current and appropriate. Employees in this position identify the IT-related needs of their departments, demonstrate network and application performance using established metrics, develop security standards and/or procedures to secure networks, and participate in professional development activities (e.g., conferences, workshops) to stay abreast of current trends and innovations in their field. As supervisors of subordinate personnel, Senior Systems Architects assign and review work, administer performance appraisals, provide work-related feedback, and make recommendations for disciplinary action when needed. Senior Systems Architects work almost exclusively indoors in office settings using standard office equipment (e.g., computer, phone, copier).
TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:
Determines IT needs requirements, options, and solutions through interviews, observations, analysis, and research in order to ensure efficient workflow and processes using available resources.Participates in the development of security related standards and procedures to secure networks / interconnectivity.Serves as project leader in coordinating projects with vendors, customers, and technical staff to implement software, resolve application problems, and ensure user requirements are met.Assists with requests for proposals and bid specifications by working as a liaison between users and vendors to determine system-software compatibility, costs, and services provided in order to make recommendations on vendor selection for software support, development, and/or integration.Supervises staff by assigning and distributing work, directing staff in their job duties, monitoring progress of work, providing feedback and/or training.Provides assistance to programmers/analysts or other personnel in reviewing work, answering technical questions, mentoring, and helps resolve personnel or technical issues that may arise.Develops and maintains technology solutions for department or municipality in order to ensure that technology solutions are performing according to established standards, baselines, or metrics to users expectations and needs.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience creating and working in virtual environments (e.g., data center, storage, servers etc.) using VMware, HyperV, or similar virtualization software.Experience designing and supporting complex systems infrastructures, which may include but is not limited to networks, computers, operating systems (e.g., Windows, Unix, Linux), and application architecture (e.g., defining the framework of an organizations application solutions against business requirements).Experience utilizing and supporting databases such as Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle within solutions.Experience providing input for an information technology budget (e.g., obtaining quotes from vendors, estimating costs of hardware/software implementation, etc.).PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate or higher-level Cisco Certification.Experience designing and supporting complex systems infrastructures, which may include but is not limited to network, computers, servers and application architectures within an industrial environment like the water/wastewater treatment field.Experience with large scale construction projects working with engineers and contractors providing designs, guidelines and overseeing compliance with specifications and standards (e.g., designing additions to the existing network and server systems and overseeing implementation).Experience determining and designing I.T. security systems and protocol for industrial control systems with a particular focus on Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) (e.g., designing and supporting firewalls, antivirus software, VPN access, surveillance cameras, etc.).Experience supervising and supporting the I.T. infrastructure of a large-scale utility that runs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with occasional call-outs during holidays and weekends.
