The SCHIE (Silicon Cloud hardware and Infrastructure Engineering) Hardware (HW) Diagnostic Engineering team is responsible for designing and developing hardware diagnostic software for Server and Rack Infrastructure components that are deployed for Microsoft's online services. We work closely with Microsoft product groups, industry partners and researchers to architect and develop server diagnostics solutions to support diagnostics and servicing of the hardware that supports our cloud services platforms.
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Software Engineer who has a good understanding of Server and Infrastructure Hardware components that are deployed in the Cloud Data Centers and a desire to innovate, learn, contribute and grow in the fastest and biggest growing segment of industry today.
Responsibilities
Responsible for working as a member of a team to develop HW diagnostic software for the storage sub-systems that are deployed in Microsoft Server Stockkeeping Units (SKUs).
Responsible for design, development, validation, deployment, and operations (DEVOPS) of HW Diagnostic Software modules in C, C++ and C# in Linux as well as Windows Server 2012/16/19 environments.
Responsible for developing scripts (PowerShell, C#, Python, Pearl, Linux BASH) to support diagnostics of various server SKUs.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, or C#o OR equivalent experience.
4+ years of hands-on coding experience (C/C++/C# in Windows Server 2012/16/19 and Linux)
2+ years experience in working with key technologies such as Central Processing Unit (CPU), Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), chipsets, motherboards, Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), Basic Input/Output System (BIOS), Baseboard Management Controller (BMC), memory, Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIe), storage, networking, Power, Thermal and familiarity with manufacturing and system integration processes for cloud servers and racks.
2+ years of hands-on experience in solving hardware and software problems in PC, Enterprise server or Cloud Server required (X86 environment and/or ARM64).

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Pythono OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
o OR equivalent experience.
8+ years of hands-on coding experience (C/C++/C# in Windows Server 2012/16/19 and Linux)
Experience in server stoage solutions, disks, and solid state drives (SSDs)
Passion for remote problem solving in enterprise or cloud environment
Engineering problem solving skills in the PC and Server Diagnostic areas.
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
