Unified Content Processing Platform (part of Compliance Shared Services) is looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer to build software systems that provide a safe shopping experience for Amazon customers, validate regulatory compliance across our supply chain and make achieving compliance simpler for selling partners.
We research, innovate, advance the state-of-the-art and build ML systems to proactively identify safety and compliance risks in Amazon’s retail business. We leverage Computer Vision and Natural Language Processing to enable the analysis, validation and data extraction from aggregated volumes of tens of millions of documents and images (such as safety datasheets, declarations of conformity, product labels, etc.), and billions of customer reviews associated with products in Amazon catalog across all marketplaces. We envision and build best in class compliance and safety software systems and tools that enable us to meet our objectives and scale cost effectively, as we continue to expand into newer and complex businesses and grow our selection.
Key job responsibilities
Lead the design, architecture, development, testing strategy, documentation, and rollout of large-scale software products;
Build and drive adoption for solutions at Amazon scale;
Translate functional requirements into robust, scalable, maintainable solutions that work well within the overall system architecture and lead the technical strategy of the team;
Evaluate and make decisions around the use of new or existing software products and tools;
Coach other SDEs and represent the team in interactions with tech partners and key stakeholders;
Work closely with the business to strategize around requirements and help innovate on our platform.
A day in the life
The main focus will be to work with stakeholders from sister teams, clarify requirements and align on high level design of the upcoming features while also coding the critical parts of those. Also, mentor and grow the L5 engineers.
About the team
Unified Content Processing Platform (UCPP) makes it “easier” to extract and validate and enrich information from structured and semi-structured inputs using computer vision ML models and human reviews. We deliver value by enabling re-use of ML models, Data Connectors at scale, as opposed to each teams independently solving for a similar set of underlying requirements.

Basic Qualifications
7+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design
Experience leading the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers
Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
Advanced level of written and spoken English
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
Experience working with distributed systems or applications, and understanding how they are deployed
Experience working with AWS services (SageMaker, S3, DynamoDB, EC2, StepFunctions, SQS, IAM) and infrastructure as code, able to identify the right architecture for the problem in hand
Experience working with machine learning pipelines

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $134,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
