About Senior Software Developer - Open Telemetry & Instrumentation

  We're seeking a Senior Developer to join our Splunk Instrumentation team, focusing on improving application telemetry collection for integration with Splunk Observability Cloud. In this role, you'll work on the development of OpenTelemetry-compatible software libraries and agents, crucial for monitoring and instrumenting a diverse range of third-party frameworks and applications.

  Responsibilities:

  As a key member of our team, your responsibilities will include:

  Actively participate in the design and ongoing evolution of Splunk Observability’s systems, ensuring they meet current needs and are scalable for future requirements.

  Take a leading role in contributing to our open-source projects, focusing on the development of distributed tracing instrumentation libraries and agents.

  Regularly review and improve existing framework and library instrumentations, ensuring they meet our high standards of quality and efficiency.

  Innovate and implement new instrumentations to broaden the range of supported frameworks, libraries, and applications, enhancing our system's capabilities and user experience.

  Oversee the release process and manage the distribution of Splunk's open-source instrumentation libraries and agents, ensuring they are accessible and up-to-date.

  Collaborate with internal teams and the open-source community to align development efforts, share knowledge, and incorporate feedback into our projects."

  Essential requirements:

  Demonstrated ability to quickly adapt to new environments and effectively maneuver through uncertainty to solve complex problems.

  Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly and effectively.

  A strong passion for building elegant and powerful tools to address customer needs and enhance user experience.

  Strong proficiency in Java is essential, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively in at least one additional technology from the following list: Python, Go, Node.js, JS or Serverless development. We highly value candidates with a versatile programming background and the ability to adapt to various technological environments.

  Prior experience in working on open-source projects is advantageous.

  Exposure to application instrumentation (metrics and/or tracing) and familiarity with open-source web frameworks and clients is beneficial.

  Solid understanding of Docker containers and cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, and/or Azure.

  Extensive knowledge of Unix/Linux environments; Windows experience is a plus.

  A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent training or work experience.

  Extensive related experience (or a Master’s degree with 4+ years of experience, or a PhD).

  Note:

  Base Pay Range

  Poland

  Base Pay: PLN 220,800.00 - 303,600.00 per year

  Splunk provides flexibility and choice in the working arrangement for most roles, including remote and/or in-office roles. We have a market-based pay structure which varies by location. Please note that the base pay range is a guideline and for candidates who receive an offer, the base pay will vary based on factors such as work location as set out above, as well as the knowledge, skills and experience of the candidate. In addition to base pay, this role is eligible for incentive compensation and may be eligible for equity or long-term cash awards.
