RTD provides on-the-jobtraining for Rail Specific knowledge. (Adding this to sell more to the ITindustry and mention we have on-the-job training to not deter candidates wholack rail experience)The Senior Network Engineer will be responsible for monitoring and maintainingthe network communications for the N-line systems. Other responsibilitiesinclude WiMax communications, PTC (Positive Train Control) SCADA, CCTVat stations and crossings, PAVMS, which provides audio and visual noticesto passengers at the stations; and Emergency telephones. This is a safetysensitive position subject to the rules and regulations of the RTD FRA Drug& Alcohol Policy.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Responsible for monitoring, performing maintenance, troubleshooting,optimizing, and repairing all aspects of the Back Office, Wayside, andOnboard PTC communications systems.Develops network design and plans for organizational networks and develops andimplements a five-year network plan that takes into account growth, highavailability and disaster recovery.Regularly monitors the performance, availability and latency of networksystems.Defines system requirements. Installs, configures, maintains/ repairsserver hardware/software and evaluates new technologies, methodologies andtechnology trends to ensure that network infrastructure meets current andfuturPerforms monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, installation,alteration, optimizing, and repairing of SCADA, CCTV, PAVMS,Emergency Telephones, CTC, and ATC and PTC systems.Plans, coordinates and conducts functional and feasibility studies andcost/benefit analyses to determine the adaptability of established andproposed information system network applications.Develops and supports standards for the use of wide-area network (WAN)services and recommends policies for WAN desktop hardware and software.Maintains information technology inventory records of wide-area and local areanetwork hardware and software as well as coordinating repairs and qualitycontrol tests.Designs solutions to systems problems, updates systems/software to currentreleases and integrates and coordinates diverse technologies.Initiates and evaluates the most current technology available and prepareswritten recommendations for implementation.Creates and maintains user accounts, manages user groups, assigns networkpermissions and other System Administrator duties.Analyzes and configures system backup strategy for SCADA servers and clients.Analyzes backup issues when they occur and resolves problems to insuresuccessful backups.Documents software installations, software patch releases, key systemconfiguration changes, and hardware and network modifications and developsand implements a disaster recovery plan.OTHER:All job-related duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, M thematics,Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering or closely related field preferred.Cisco Certified Network Professional or Cisco Certified Design Professionalcertification or equivalent experience highly desired.A minimum of six years of experience in the analysis, installation,administration and troubleshooting of all aspects of a data network.A minimum of six years of experience working with TCP/IP, VPN, IPsec,tunneling, T1, T3, DSL, ISDN, fiber optics, gigabit Ethernet,VLANs, 802.11x(WiFi), OSPF, BGP, Cisco IOS, VRRP, QOS,ACLs, VoIP, spanning tree, SNMP, RADIUS, IPS/IDS.Rail Experience preferred, not requiredKNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Proficiency in advanced analysis, installation, administration andtroubleshooting of a data network.Proficiency in System Administration functionsProficiency in network design and planning.Proficiency in auditing and documentation methods and practices.Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.Ability to use sound judgment.Ability to manage time and workload effectively which includes planning,organizing, and prioritizing with attention to details.Ability to support critical systems after hours, nights and weekends asneeded in a 24/7/365.OR:An equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills,abilities.WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:The work environment and physical demands described here are representative ofthose required by an employee to perform the essential functions of this jobwith or without reasonable accommodations.The work environment is a split between office work and field work which mayrequire working outdoors at all hours and all weather conditions.
