  Why this job matters

  The Senior Manager, Policy, Controls and Assurance is responsible for the governance, development and maintenance of the related frameworks to provide simple and clear rules and expectations on how we operate and meet our objectives, and a consistent structure with which our assurance activities can be targeted, and conformance levels monitored.

  The role will ensure that senior management and the Board are provided with clear line of sight on the effectiveness of the control environment and are able to use the output to prioritise and course correct where required.

  What you’ll be doing

  Operates as an SME in risk, supporting the implementation and continuous improvement of the Group's risk framework.

  Supports owners of risk and their teams in setting the company appetite for risk and designing supporting metrics, rules and assurance approaches to take on the right amount of risk.

  Works with the key stakeholders to support the implementation and successful running of the framework throughout the company, ensuring risks are brought together for review, discussion, prioritisation, ownership, action and reporting in a consistent and value-adding manner.

  Facilitates data-driven conversations around risk management at Unit leadership teams, leading to smarter decisions and better operational integrity.

  Active part of the risk management community in BT, helping them to engage with the framework, sharing best practice and being advocates of our risk culture;

  Supports the production of reports to senior management on the business' view of the current risks, and the status of the management of risks in the Group Risk Categories (GRCs), for discussion, confirmation and consideration of any further actions required.

  Actively promote and monitor BT's overall risk mindset, and the support the development of risk management-related training and communications.

  Facilitate 'dot joining' across the company by engaging with subject matter experts on emerging risks and risk themes, identifying areas where cross company responses and strategies are required.

  The skills you’ll need

  4+ years of experience in control and assurance management in organisations commensurate with the scale and complexity of BT.

  Experience providing clear output to business leaders and oversight committees on the effectiveness of the control environment.

  Understanding of external requirements in relation to risk, controls and assurance, in particular the UK Corporate Governance Code.

  Stakeholder management and influencing skills with the ability to communicate effectively with the highest levels of management and decision-making within the organization.

  Experienced in design and implementation of control and assurance frameworks and tools including the Three Lines of Defence model.

  Ability to communicate effectively internally across large organisations with others involved in risk, control and assurance. Ability to communicate effectively externally to bring in outside thinking.

  Strong commercial awareness with an understanding of the value drivers of the business.
