About Senior Manager, Consumer VAT, Amazon Consumer VAT Team

  Description

  Amazon has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and experienced VAT Manager to work within the European VAT Consumer team. This is on current and future VAT strategy, projects and advisory work. The successful candidate will be a highly effective, resilient and adaptable tax professional, comfortable working in an innovative, ambiguous and challenging environment. This role will drive and shape a number of VAT regulatory and projects across the Amazon consumer business, collaborating with tax, finance, public policy and business teams to shape Amazon's response to drive enhanced risk management strategy and best practice. The role will encompass a range of high profile projects and exposure to senior stakeholders.

  Key job responsibilities

  The Senior VAT Manager will be responsible for the following key tasks: (i) Developing a deep understanding of the VAT risk challenges created by existing VAT rules and new VAT regulatory developments as well as business programs and initiatives; (ii) Working with the VAT Controllership team, developing strategic risk management programs for new VAT regulatory developments ensuring business remains compliant, distilling the implications of those risks for a range of internal stakeholders; (iii) Reporting to senior leadership on VAT risk management, business problem statements and our strategies to mitigate those; (iv) Creating a reusable roadmap of resources to ensure consistent application of Amazon's strategies and positions; and (v) Working with external stakeholders, such as peers, tax technical industry groups and advisors.

  Desired skills: (i) A team player with excellent English written and verbal communication skills with a “can-do” attitude; (ii) Ability to initiate and implement change, organized with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail; and (iii) Capacity to quickly understand and digest complex business arrangements and project manage multiple business initiatives with an entrepreneurial spirit.

  A day in the life

  A typical day will be spent connecting with key internal stakeholders and customers, such as tax, finance and business partners, on international VAT regulatory developments and business programs such as cross-border B2B supply chain; and managing associated VAT risks. You will be required to develop a deep understanding of Amazon's business problem statements and learn how the VAT regulatory environment impacts them. You will also work to find innovative solutions.

  About the team

  This role will be part of the Amazon VAT Consumer/Advisory team consisting of 30+ members. We are a highly specialized and high impact team, working on the most material VAT regulatory issues and related business challenges.

  We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

  London, GBR

  Basic Qualifications

  10 to 15 years VAT experience in a large accounting or consulting practice, law firm, or in-house at a blue-chip commercial organization. EMEA VAT regime experience, especially regarding B2B supply chain and risk management. Excellent written and spoken English.

  Preferred Qualifications

  Recognized professional tax qualification (CIOT/ADIT or equivalent), or relevant law degree. Ability to: (i) Operate effectively in a team environment and work independently with limited general supervision, effectively prioritizing competing demands in a fast-paced environment; (ii) Deal with ambiguity and manage changing priorities; and (iii) Persuasively communicate complex and technical concepts and issues to internal and external stakeholders, in writing and verbally.
