Description
We are seeking a talented Senior Grant Accountant for large nonprofit company based in the Chicago Loop. The ideal candidate will have in-depth experience in grant management and accounting, with the ability to understand complex grant regulations and maintain accuracy of records. This is an interim / contract opportunity.
Responsibilities:
Manage all aspects of grants accounting, including the timely and accurate preparation of financial reports, invoices, and budget forecasting.
Maintain accurate and timely grant fund reconciliations.
Coordinate with program managers and other department staff to budget appropriately for grant applications and funding.
Ensure compliance with all funding source administrative guidelines, timely receipt of revenue, accurate submission of financial reports, audit compliance and maintenance of grant tracking systems.
Contribute expertise in overseeing financial records, including cash flow, revenue and pipeline projections.
Regularly review and analyze grant expenditures for consistency with budget and adherence to standard accounting procedures.
Serve as the primary finance liaison for principal investigators, project managers, and funding agencies.
Assist with annual audits and preparation of financial statements

Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance or related field.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit or grant accounting roles.
Knowledge of grant accounting best practices and general accounting principles.
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel.
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial details and requirements.
Excellent attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to adapt and thrive in an evolving organizational environment.
