Senior Distributed Systems Engineer

　　Job Description:

　　Designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs software programs for software enhancements and new products. Develops software including operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, utilities, databases and Internet-related tools. Determines hardware compatibility and/or influences hardware design.

　　Work on Pachyderm File System (PFS) team. PFS is the storage layer for HPE Machine Learning Data Management Software HPE Machine Learning Data Management SoftwareWrite software in the Go programming language.Work with Postgres, Object Storage, and Kubernetes to build filesystems, version control, queuing systems, and other infrastructure services supporting the AI at Scale business unit.Design and implement new functionality including APIs, storage schemes, and distributed data processing systems.Use Slack, Notion, and GitHub to coordinate asynchronously with other engineers on a fully remote team.Debug and fix issues discovered by our support engineers.Work in an open source codebase GitHub - pachyderm/pachyderm: Data-Centric Pipelines and Data VersioningMentor and level-up other engineers.Actively contribute to our systems design process.

　　Qualifications

　　6 years experience building software. This should come with a track record you can speak to of interesting projects, and difficult problems you solved.Deep understanding of data structures and algorithms. Analyzing the complexity of algorithms is necessary to design systems in this role. You know what O(n) means.Strong programming skills. Going from design to implementation is easy for you. You know at least one programming language well enough that you could solve any problem with it. If you don't already know Go, you have a record of learning other languages quickly.Strong Systems Design Skills. You can conceive of multiple ways that a system could work, and compare the costs and benefits of each approach, before writing any code. You can design systems in enough detail, and with enough foresight, that other engineers can execute on your plans in parallel.Excellent written communication skills. You are comfortable working on a fully remote team, and integrating feedback from multiple parties asynchronously. You are effective at explanation and convincing others of your ideas through writing.

　　Experience programming in GoBachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or Natural Sciences.
