FUNCTION & SCOPE:
The SUNY Charter Schools Institute is responsible for evaluating proposals for new charter schools, and the continuous monitoring of student academic performance, fiscal soundness, and overall school operations of 220+ SUNY authorized charter schools. The Senior Data Analyst will be part of the Performance and Systems team, and will be responsible for producing evaluation and analytic support to the Institute's school evaluation teams and carrying out projects and tasks related to other core functions of the Institute.
Specific duties will include:
Conduct all key analyses of school data including regression of school achievement results and modify existing R or Stata code as necessary to comport to new raw data.
Produce formal data reports and visualizations of school performance based on Institute priorities aligned to Accountability Plan goals and measures.
Design structural improvements and maintain internal achievement database, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of school- and student-level data.
Oversee the collection of primary source documents from schools on performance data and produce school and network performance analyses.
Oversee school development of charter school Accountability Plans.
Develop and evaluate charter school accountability reports to monitor progress toward stated performance outcomes and contribute to the design of novel analyses of school performance related to accountability.
Develop capacity of Institute staff for implementation and use of data management systems.
Liaise with external partners such as nationally-normed assessment publishers, post-secondary institutions, and other organizations in order to collect necessary supplementary data and analyses of school performance.
Develop the Institute's capacity to coordinate and provide general technical assistance and feedback to charter school applicants and specific technical assistance to operating charter schools on using statistical analyses of student academic data for completing accountability reports and improving instruction.
Track and support charter schools and charter school boards on the development and analyzing of Accountability Plans and performance data.
Other Core Function Duties:
Provide written reports to senior staff, informational memos for school files, draft outgoing correspondence and complete other written assignments as appropriate.
Produce ad hoc data reports and assist in the presentation of school data as required.
Assist senior staff with the development and execution of the Institute's research agenda and school evaluations.
Conduct informal and formal visits to charter schools in accordance with the Institute's monitoring protocols.
Job Requirements:
Required Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in data science, public policy/administration, statistics, business, education or other relevant field and 3-5 years' progressively responsible work experience
Must be experienced in Stata, R, Python, or other analogous analytic software, and must be highly competent in Microsoft Access and Excel
Must demonstrate strong organizational, multi-tasking, communication, and project management skills
Experience with statistics and systems analysis required
Preferred Education/Experience:
Master's Degree
Experience with data and document management systems
Charter school experience

Salary Range: $75,000-$90,000 dependent on location and experience. Excellent benefits package.
