Applied Materials has an exciting opportunity to join our world-class Global Litigation & Compliance team. This team is responsible for safeguarding Applied’s innovations and confidential information while closely collaborating with key partners across the company. We leverage cutting edge technology and techniques to investigate and take action, while relentlessly preventing and mitigating risk for the company.
In this role, you will work closely with the business to understand contractual obligations, collaborations, and business relationships to protect Applied’s innovations and business partner confidential information, while managing risk. You will also work closely with leadership to develop and implement a comprehensive audit response program.
This position uniquely combines legal advisory and compliance functions, and requires identifying and solving complex problems that impact the direction of a global business. Candidates must have litigation, investigations, and compliance experience and possess strong matter management skills. Candidates must demonstrate sound legal judgment, aptitude for novel issues and complex technologies, and an ability to quickly learn and grow within an increasingly dynamic business environment.
This position will be based out of Applied Materials’ Santa Clara Headquarters. Occasional travel may be necessary to support pending matters and strategic initiatives.
Major Areas of Responsibility
Designing, implementing, and managing a collaborative cross-functional compliance program designed to protect Applied’s innovations and confidential information across Applied’s business relationships and collaborations.
Managing risk around audit compliance, primarily related to the use and handling of information.
Managing internal investigations and internal audits related to the use and handing of information.
Working collaboratively in cross-functional teams to manage legal risk.
Designing and delivering tailored training to the business on compliance and intellectual property.
Overseeing the return and/or destruction of information at the end of a business relationship.
Identifying, assessing, and managing litigation risk, while advising business stakeholders on prevention and mitigation.
Minimum Qualifications
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school and currently admitted to practice law in at least one United States jurisdiction
7+ years of complex contractual and/or technology focused litigation and/or compliance experience at a top-tier law firm and/or in-house
Passion to build out and lead a new collaborative program in an established organization
Exceptional written and oral communication skills
Exposure to complex contractual and/or trade secrets investigations
Strong grasp of technology and a desire to dive into the details
Preferred Qualifications
Previous in-house experience (preferably at a technology company with global operations)
Prior experience building out a compliance and/or audit program within a business unit or organization
Broad experience with all areas of compliance and/or a desire to learn in order to support new technologies and growth for the company.
Understanding of computer and digital forensics.

U.S. Salary Range:
$188,000.00 - $258,500.00
The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.
For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
