Job Description
In the UK and Ireland we have over 2000 staff working on water and environment projects for Government Departments and Agencies, local authorities, water companies, other infrastructure operators and major private sector clients.
To meet our growing business needs, we are looking to employ a Senior Coastal Modeller to work within our Coastal team in Basingstoke. Our Basingstoke office has an active sports and social club and regularly undertakes a range of environmental and community support initiatives. Here you will have the opportunity to collaborate with UK Water teams and other business lines on major multi-disciplinary projects.
As Senior Coastal Modeller you will work on high profile Coastal and Ports projects and will have the following responsibilities:
Undertake modelling studies for a range of projects supporting feasibility/option appraisal to detailed design.
Work closely with other disciplines in the delivery of modelling studies.
Provide clear and consistent guidance for work carried out by junior modellers.
Manage parts of a project and ensure delivery of tasks to agreed budget, programme and quality.
Manage financial aspect of assigned project tasks.
Support the preparation of project budget & programme.
Appropriately liaise with clients, government authorities, contractors and suppliers.
Mentor junior modelling staff and potentially have line manager responsibilities.
Qualifications
Masters degree in Civil Engineering, Coastal Engineering, Marine Science, Oceanography or similar.
Chartered or close to achieving chartership with an appropriate institution (i.e. IMarEST or CIWEM).
Experience working on Coastal, Ports or Water projects, with demonstrable technical capabilities.
You will have experience of two, or more, of the following;
Model development and application using MIKE by DHI and/or Delft3D software.
Metocean data analysis using MATLAB / Python.
Near-field mixing studies using CORMIX.
Joint probability methods (using EA/Defra guidance).
Multivariate analysis.
Overtopping assessments (using the EurOtop Manual).
Beach design (using XBeach, Shingle-B).
Desirable:
Experience in project management
Experience in work winning and proposal writing.
Experience of environmental impact assessments and water quality modelling.
Hands on experience using project planning packages like Microsoft Project.
