　　Position Summary:

　　Serves as senior trained member of the orthopedic team who assists all health care professionals in delivering patient care and assuming appropriate responsibilities concerning all casting duties.

　　Position Key Accountabilities:

　　Responsible for training new employees for duration necessary to become a department certified cast tech able to support clinical casting needs, including all casting techniques specific to providers, application of DME, and patient care instructions.

　　Serves as continuing education trainer for current cast techs within department. Provides follow up training, maintenance training for casting skills, and DME application.

　　Assists with cast room set up for new clinics. Provides support in assessing new and existing clinic cast rooms for efficiency, workflow, casting inventory and DME inventory.

　　Under a physician or mid-level’s direction, prepares, removes and adjusts casts and splints as advised by a physician.

　　With appropriate MA certification (completion of an approved MA training program) and having passed the MA competency evaluation, can practice within the limitations of the certification.

　　Performs other duties as assigned. ¿

　　Certification/Skills:

　　Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. A strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology and expertise in the different materials and equipment involved in casts, splints and braces. Experience in training the techniques of cast application to other technicians from novice to veteran status.

　　Minimum Education:

　　High School Diploma.

　　Minimum Experience:

　　Four years of experience in a hospital, clinic or medical practice setting.

　　Physical Requirements:

　　Exerts up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently and/or up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
