The Opportunity
The Senior Business Development Manager will be responsible for supporting Abt Britain to scale its work in the UK through the acquisition of new business. The Senior BD Manager will enable Abt to position effectively for new opportunities and will lead and manage proposal efforts, with a particular focus on framework opportunities with Abt’s multilateral clients. They will be expected to build and manage strategic partnerships and support the development of efficient and effective business development systems and processes. The role will manage 1-2 direct reports in the Frameworks function within the Business Growth team.
Core Responsibilities
Capture and Proposal Management
End-to-end management of the proposal process on assigned opportunities, from capture to contract award, including:
Directly managing or overseeing the capture and proposal process for opportunities within the Frameworks function. Activities include, but are not limited to: coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, managing capture and tender teams, identifying and securing talent, external partner negotiation, contributing to commercial strategies and coordinating legal reviews
Leading relevant capture and proposal meetings
Working with technical subject matter experts, applying critical thinking to develop strategies, win themes and unique selling points
Writing technical sections, formatting, and reviewing proposals
Ensuring proposals submitted through the Frameworks function are of high-quality, compliant and on-time
Support opportunities outside of the Frameworks function as required
Market Research
Manage and direct the identification and tracking of potential framework business opportunities, including through client meetings and in-country capture trips as required
Undertake and direct market research to inform and contribute to business development strategies
Maintain strong knowledge of client priorities, policies and approaches
Stakeholder Management and Communication
Develop and maintain strong external working relationships with clients, strategic partners, and technical advisers
Provide regular updates to internal stakeholders and the wider company at business development meetings
Contribute to the development and expansion of the centralised knowledge management repository
Business development processes and planning
Identify and support the development of approaches to support the continuous improvement of business development systems and processes
Working closely with recruitment colleagues, develop long term strategies to identify and maintain relationships with talent pools relevant to anticipated client needs
Oversee the maintenance of the pipeline/Opportunity Management System for framework opportunities to support alignment with financial forecasting
Contribute to strategic planning and resource planning of the Frameworks Function
What We Value
9+ years of relevant professional experience
Demonstrated business development experience, including capture, proposal writing and proposal management, preferably on winning proposals for commercial contracts.
Experience with multilateral (e.g. Global Fund, Green Climate Fund) or EU clients required.
Experience with managing framework or framework-style procurement mechanisms preferred
Demonstrated internal and external stakeholder management skills
Demonstrated experience supporting the development of budgets and commercial strategies
Previous experience managing direct reports or teams
Ability to manage risk and compliance
Ability to communicate persuasively and effectively verbally and in writing
Dynamism and the ability to problem solve
Experience in managing risk and compliance
