  About the Role:

  The Team: The role sits within the emerging markets (EM) economics team, which provides key inputs into the ratings practices in the form of quarterly forecasts, scenarios, narratives, and general analysis. The EM economics team focuses on about two dozen economies that are systemic or important to our business (other EM and lower-income economies are forecast by our sovereign ratings team), including several in Latin America. The team interacts regularly with market participants: investors, issuers, regulators and central banks, media. The team thrives on developing accurate forecasts and prognoses, top-tier insights, clear and crisp communication, and complete independence of view, while working closely with the EM credit research team.

  Responsibilities and Impact: The purpose of this position is to provide oversight, strategic direction, and market-leading research on EM economics. The Latin America economist will be responsible for conducting an in-depth analysis on a small number of Latin American economies while providing support to the broader EM macro work.

  Responsibilities:

  Progressively leads the Latin America economic research, while supporting data-heavy projects for the broader EM macro team

  Interact with mainstream media, and participate in speaking engagements in internal and external conferences.

  Works closely with senior credit analysts in Latin American economies to tell the macro-credit story

  Forecast the macro baseline for major Latin American economies, as well as develop risk scenarios for the 1,600 analysts working in the Ratings division of S&P Global

  Supports other S&P Global divisions when their work intersects with macroeconomics and finance, including appearing in events as a speaker or panelist

  Compensation/Benefits Information (This section is only applicable to US candidates): S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $77,400 to $160,600. The final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, including experience level, skill set, training, licenses, and certifications. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan. This role is not eligible for additional compensation such as an annual incentive bonus or sales commission plan.   What we’re looking for:

  Basic Required Qualifications:

  A junior economist who will progressively lead the research and analysis of economic and financial trends and developments in key Latin American economies

  Must be fluent in English & Spanish/Portuguese (written & verbal)

  Prepare written reports and blogs for publication on economic and market trends in economies under coverage

  Prepare, maintain, and update PowerPoint and other presentations for internal and external use, including helping to prepare inputs to our flagship Credit Conditions Committee

  Build our brand by developing relationships with thought leaders and officials in those countries under coverage (central banks, national statistical offices, academic researchers)

  Experience (1-2 years) as a professional economist in a combination of roles in the private financial sector, central banking, and international organizations (recent graduates also considered)

  Advanced degree (preferably a PhD) in economics from a top-tier university

  Programming skills (python preferred)

  Excellent public speaking skills/track record and strong communication skills
