About Senior Agile Software Engineer - Backend API, JavaScript

  If you are a Software Engineering professional with experience in cloud native development for the IoT space looking for an opportunity to grow, Copeland has an exciting opportunity for you! Based remotely in Canada from our Montreal location, you will be doing infrastructure as necessary and have responsibility for the entire software lifecycle. The Senior Agile Software Engineer is someone who is passionate and enjoys developing code.

  AS A SENIOR AGILE SOFTWARE ENGINEER - BACKEND, YOU WILL:

  Design and support scalable cloud native solutions with 24/7 uptime requirements using infrastructure as code paradigms

  Write software using modern languages designed to operate in serverless environments

  Develop automated behavioral and unit tests

  Deploy code to production daily ensuring updates comply with security best practices and are easy to rollback

  Develop APIs and protocols to work with websites, 3rd party partners, mobile applications, and IoT devices

  WHO YOU ARE:

  You look beyond the obvious and don’t stop at the first answers and facilitate an open dialogue with a wide variety of contributors and stakeholders

  You tackle difficult issues with optimism and confidence and view mistakes as opportunities to learn

  REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCES & SKILLS:

  5 years experience in software development

  Knows at least a couple languages well (NodeJS, Typescript, etc.)

  Experience developing and deploying software on a major cloud native platform (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.)

  Comfortable using automation for development, testing, and deployment of software products

  Enjoys paired programming

  Comfortable translating business requirements into a design

  Has shipped at least one commercially used software product

  Participates in product support (e.g. on call if needed) independently

  Understands agile development, could teach the ideas

  Can explain and communicate technically complicated and abstract topics to business and product teams effectively

  Must live in Canada, and have legal authorization to work in the Canada now and in the future - Sponsorship will not be provided for this position

  Please Note: This role is 100% remote. However, we have an onsite conference for 1 week per quarter to enhance collaboration with fun team building exercises and development sessions. This conference takes place at one of our U.S. or Canada locations, and is considered business travel. Expenses are covered by Copeland.

  PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCES & SKILLS

  Has shipped multiple commercialized products

  Experience in related fields, e.g. customer support or data science

  Experience with functional programming languages

  Has an interest in the business, e.g. product viability and marketing

  Ability to travel to the U.S. for one week per quarter

By working remote, you will have open communication with your coworkers both onsite and offsite. Employees can flex their start and stop times given they are working during the core hours of 9:00am - 3:00pm (based on team headquarters’ time zone). Our teams work together to ensure their chosen work schedules are supporting our customers. This role also has a travel requirement of up to 1 week per quarter within the US and internationally, predetermined by leadership in advance.
