DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The primary objective of this role is to perform semi-skilled tasks related to the upkeep of state forest facilities and roads within the Bald Eagle State Forest. This includes ensuring forest fire protection within the Bald Eagle Forest District. As part of your responsibilities, you will be responsible for maintaining State Forest roads by clearing culvert pipes of sediment and debris, removing stones from roadways after they have been shaped by a road grader, clearing side ditches of debris and sediment, and cutting and removing brush and trees from roadsides as directed by your supervisor. In addition to road maintenance, you will also operate equipment such as a stone rake pulled by a tractor or pickup truck to ensure the proper maintenance of snowmobile trails. This will involve using snowmobile trail grooming equipment and snowmobiles to groom and maintain the trails. Furthermore, you will be required to operate all-terrain vehicles (ATV) and other equipment used in maintaining the ATV management areas. As part of your duties, you will also utilize chainsaws and other hand tools to clear brush and remove treetops from hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, and other trails. Additionally, you will be responsible for painting trail markers to clearly identify the various trails. Lastly, you will be required to mow grass using power mowers and weed eaters to ensure the overall maintenance and aesthetics of the State Forest facilities.
