Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Secondary STEM Education Specialist works with colleagues at BoiseState University and partner institutions in a professionalcollaborative to design and deliver high-quality STEM teacher educationand professional learning programs. The position is focused onsupporting an externally funded initial teacher preparation program forgrades 6-12 STEM teachers in Region 3 (Southwest Idaho) and Region 4schools (Magic Valley and surrounding areas).
Department Overview:
The Curriculum, Instruction, and Foundational Studies Department (CIFS)is a collaborative department searching for dynamic educators committedto teacher education. Our College of Education hosts several initiativesfocused on serving teacher education needs across Idaho and we areseeking a Secondary STEM Education Specialist to join to engage incollaborative work focused on STEM teacher education.
Level Scope:
Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and putit into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional fieldwith limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the fullrange of responsibilities within the function; requires deep jobknowledge of areas typically obtained through higher education combinedwith experience. Manages large projects or processes; navigates problemsfaced that are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues ofdiverse scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that includeformulating strategies and administering policies, processes, andresources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences othersregarding policies, practices and procedures.
Essential Functions:
Facilitate teacher education activities for 6-12 Idaho educators focusedon research-based instructional practices to improve Idaho students\'STEM learning, including:
1. Serving as instructor for initial teacher preparation courses oncurriculum, pedagogy, assessment, and related topics
2. Collaborative preparation and planning meetings with teachers,administrators, and other educators
3. Leading workshops and courses on STEM education topics inface-to-face and online formats
4. Frequent travel to schools for embedded classroom teachingactivities, and
5. Use and facilitation of online collaborative technologies.
Contribute to applied STEM education research and professionaldevelopment projects through:
1. Collaborative creation and revision of professional learningmaterials,
2. Facilitation of workshops with classroom teachers and districtleaders, and
3. Collection and analysis of research data in addressing STEM teachingand learning.
Engage in personal and collective professional learning and developmentthrough:
1. Collaboration with colleagues at Boise State and other Idaho highereducation institutions,
2. Review of scholarly literature and participation in STEM educationconferences, and
3. Independent learning activities as approved by supervisor(s).
May perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Experien e facilitating STEM Education preservice and/or in-serviceteacher professional development or other education learning activities.
Teaching and/or coaching experience at the secondary level.
The ability to work with colleagues at Boise State University in aprofessional collaboration to design and deliver high-quality STEMEducation support for preservice and in-service teachers.
Possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Interest, experience, and/or ability to promote cultural competencyand/or diversity.
Minimum
Qualifications:
Bachelor\'s Degree and 5 years experience or equivalent relevantexperience.
Preferred Qualifications:
2 years of teaching experience in U.S. 6-12 educational contexts.
Master\'s degree in education or a related discipline.
Experience supporting teacher education programs.
Multidisciplinary knowledge of secondary STEM content.
