  Job Description:

  L3Harris Technologies has an opening for a senior Systems Engineer in Fort Wayne, IN. The ideal candidate for this position will be proficient in all aspects of the systems engineering process, will have direct and significant experience designing and testing complex systems, and will have experience in the modeling, simulation, and the performance analysis of Electro-Optical and Infrared (EO/IR) sensors.

  L3Harris is looking for Systems Engineers to help design, develop, integrate, test, and deliver space based remote sensing systems to our customers and support their on-going operations in the areas of both weather and missile warning/missile defense.

  Essential Functions:

  Support/lead mission data processing for Missile Warning / Missile Defense (MW/MD) systems in support of high level customer performance requirements and derived requirements.

  Support/lead space based EO/IR payload performance analysis for new and existing designs. This includes assessment of various optical designs, algorithm performance, SNR/NET, minimum detectable target (MDT), Probability of Track (Ptrack), etc. Additionally, support/lead data analysis of test data in support of requirement verification.

  Support/lead EO/IR modeling & simulation of cluttered Earth scenes to support algorithm development and performance verification

  Support ground and payload algorithm implementation for deployment into real-time operational systems

  Support/lead technical discussions with government customers including design reviews (PDR, CDR, etc) and working groups.

  Support/lead concept of operation development and requirements analysis, decomposition, and generation at various levels of the system

  Support integration and test of electro-optical/infrared systems and related hardware/software

  Provides support to engineering in developing technical specifications, interface control documents, test plans and procedures, and test conformance to specifications

  Present work to multi-disciplinary team and internal/external customers

  Provide mentoring to less experienced Systems Engineers

  Contribute to proposal activities

  Program planning, guidance, and execution

  Qualifications:

  Bachelors’s degree and 12+ years (10+ with MS or with PhD) of prior relevant experience

  In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior related experience.

  Understanding of OPIR systems and mission data products

  Experience generating/managing requirements at various levels of the system and flowing down requirements to sub-systems/sub-components

  Experience leading multi-discipline technical teams

  Technical expertise in Electrical, Mechanical, Optical or equivalent engineering discipline

  Experience working on aerospace/defense systems (space payloads, spacecraft bus, ground systems, environmental testing)

  Current DoD SECRET or higher security clearance

  Preferred Additional Skills:

  Experience developing video processing algorithms for embedded systems in C/C++ or VHDL/Verilog

  Experience developing OPIR mission data exploitation software in ground systems

  Knowledge of C/C++, Python, and VHDL/Verilog

  Excellent inter-personal and communication skills, ability to interact with a cross functional team, act as customer interface

  Ability to collaborate across all levels of leadership

  Experience with data analysis and/or modeling and simulation (e.g. with MATLAB/python)

  Experience with estimating and managing costs

  Experience architecting, analyzing, developing, and integrating end to end systems in areas such as EO/IR, RF, or space payload and spacecraft bus subsystems

  Experience working with and/or managing suppliers/sub-contracts

  Active TS/SCI security clearance
