ES&H teams are comprised of three distinct disciplines that support our ES&H Management System and processes at project sites and offices. These teams include environmental scientists, safety specialists, and industrial hygiene scientists. Collectively, they provide technical guidance and perform planning, risk assessment, inspections and monitoring, training, and data management.

　　An opportunity exists to work within the ES&H team at our Cardinal Project located in New Albany, Ohio.

　　Position SummaryThe Safety Specialist helps develop and execute the safety component of an Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) program. This involves administrative and field tasks per established industry practices, procedures, and regulatory and Bechtel requirements. The position requires practical application of occupational safety and related disciplines for managing safety and health aspects of a project or facility. The position reports to an assigned Area ES&H Supervisor.

　　ResponsibilitiesExecutes assignments involving significant safety and health issues and risks, using judgment and experience in the application of scientific techniques and plans to reduce the potential for adverse impacts.

　　Interprets requirements and provides technical assistance within ES&H teams and to other project groups regarding risk and hazard assessment, plan preparation, and ES&H program execution.

　　Researches issues and regulatory requirements, performs studies and risk assessments, and prepares documentation and reports.

　　Performs safety studies, risk assessments, and other safety and health reviews.

　　Drafts and helps implement the project Safety and Health Management Plan, associated plans and procedures, and training program.

　　Helps establish emergency preparedness and performs incident investigations.

　　Helps identify stakeholders and resolve their concerns.

　　Participates in meetings, as required, with customers, project team members, and contractors/subcontractors to advise them of safety and health requirements.

　　Conducts inspections and monitoring to help evaluate ES&H performance, identify corrective actions, and confirm compliance with contract, regulatory, project, and Bechtel requirements.

　　Develops safety and health communication through publications, flyers, posters, signs, banners, and other communication media.

　　Analyzes data, tracks ES&H performance and trends, and prepares technical reports.

　　Supports other ES&H team members and tasks associated with all three ES&H disciplines.

　　Qualifications and SkillsBasic Qualifications

　　Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent) in occupational safety, health, or a science-related discipline from an accredited university or college with 2 or more years of relevant experience; or an Associate’s degree (or equivalent) in one of the same disciplines with 4 or more years of relevant experience; or 6 or more years of relevant safety or health experience.

　　Valid driver’s license.

　　Additional Qualifications:Ability to research and comprehend organizational and regulatory requirements.

　　Excellent oral and written communication skills.

　　Computer skills for preparing presentations, data management, and report preparation.

　　Analytical skills related to sampling, monitoring, and recordkeeping.

　　Adaptable and able to work outdoors in a field environment under various weather conditions.

　　Ability to support multiple work shifts, as needed, and a wide range of tasks.

　　Knowledge and experience with ISO 45001 Management System standards.

　　Specialized technical skills and knowledge related to an applicable safety or health discipline.

　　Heavy construction experience.
