*Position Description *
The Safety Specialist will focus on improving Health and Safety at the Ultium Cells facility by using his/her experience to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control hazards in the workplace and engage employees in the development of a strong H&S culture. Functions as an expert resource to teams for consistent implementation of company H&S standards and programs.
*Job Responsibilities *
Design and manage process safety management programCoordinate initial process hazard analyses (PHA) and periodic updatesDevelop recommendations for addressing process safety issues identified during risk analysisCoach and train other employees and the plant leadership team about process safety requirementsOversee one or more plant-wide safety and health programs and act as a champion of the sites workplace safety systemEnsure effective hazard identification and mitigation for plant operations and administrative officesConduct daily line walks to ensure S&H practices are being observed and to note any at-risk behaviors, unsafe conditions, faulty equipment or non-compliance with any H&S related policies/regulationsEnsure timely communication of safety issues/concerns to department leadershipLead cross-functional teams to drive improvements across the organizationParticipate in incident investigations and track corrective actionsConduct new equipment reviews, mechanical risk assessments and ergonomic risk assessmentsParticipate in emergency response drills and critiquesConduct new hire orientation, contractor safety and other H&S related training topicsDevelop/update site specific programs to ensure compliance with all applicable regulationsEvaluates workplace compliance with regard to local, state and federal regulations Performs jobsite auditing and conducts incident investigation Conducts inspections and ensures compliance with applicable H&S regulations and standardsAdditional duties as assignedAbility to work selected weekends, holidays, and shifts*Qualifications And Competencies *
Bachelor's degree required in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field3+ years of experience evaluating and improving Safety and Health programs in a manufacturing environmentKnowledge in advanced manufacturing technology (automation), chemicals, and electrical safety a plusStrong knowledge of and experience working with OSHA and state/local regulations and requirementsMust be comfortable working in a team settingSkill in analyzing and evaluating technical data, test results, and reportsPositive attitude, self-driven, strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated effectiveness in accomplishing goalsProfessional certification (GSP/CSP, CIH) preferredDemonstrated project management skillsStrong hazard recognition skills
