JOB REQUIREMENTS: POSITION SPECIFICS Title: Registered Nurse FTE: 0.3FTE (24 hours/pay period) Schedule: 12 hour shifts, day/night WeekendRotation: Every third On Call Requirements: 18 hours of call every sixweeks and three weekends per year POSITION SUMMARY Provides quality,professional, nursing care to obstetric and newborn patients, includinglabor and delivery, following all standards, practices, policies andprocedures. POSITION TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Provide triage forObstetric outpatients. 2. Perform a thorough nursing admissionassessment, review of health history including prenatal records, anddocument according to policy. 3. Initiate fetal monitoring and interpretand document fetal tracing according to guidelines. 4. Perform vaginalexams. 5. Monitor progress of laboring mothers and notify provider whenappropriate utilizing the Situation Background Assessment Recommendation(SBAR) format. 6. Support patient\'s choice for pain management. Providelabor support to both patients and support for their families. 7.Perform sterile setup of delivery instruments. 8. Explain procedures andtreatments to patient. 9. Following hospital policy, prepare patientsfor a cesarean section; both scheduled and emergent. 10. Care forpatients who are have their labor induced or augmented. 11. Document allnursing care, according to policy, in the electronic medical record(EMR). 12. Assist providers during procedures such as internal monitorplacement, Amniocentesis or External Cephalic Version. 13. AssistCertified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) during the placement ofregional anesthesia. 14. Provide care for the delivering patient. 15.Perform postpartum care to mothers according to protocol. 16. Providelactation support and education. 17. Perform nursery care for newborns.18. Provide bedside shift to shift report utilizing the SBAR format. 19.Accompany obstetric patients on transfer to another facility. 20. Carefor the newborn requiring additional nursery care such as IV therapy,oxygen. 21. Respond to life-threatening situations based upon nursingstandards, policies, procedures, and protocol. 22. Maintain strictconfidentiality. 23. Create environment that fosters good teamrelationships. 24. Assure that the unit is clean, stocked with theappropriate supplies and equipment is ready for use. 25. Demonstrateeffective communication skills with coworkers, physicians, patients andpatients\' family members. 26. Delegate duties to others as appropriate.27. Float to other units as necessary. 28. Participate in department orunit quality improvement activities. 29. Attend 75% of unit meetings.30. May have precepting responsibility for another person. 31. Treat allpatients equally, with compassion and without regard to medicalcondition, social status, or race. 32. Protect patients\' rights. 33.Participate in continuing education through staff meetings, onlineeducation, webinars, simulation/drills, and case review CMEs.
