  The Hartford is seeking to fill a Managing Director Role in the Southeast. The ideal candidate will reside within our Southeast Region which includes Lake Mary, FL, Washington DC, Charlotte, NC, Atlanta GA and Nashville, TN. The Hartford promotes a highly collaborative work environment and encourages a team approach as we engage with our underwriters to deliver sound business decisions. The Managing Director will lead a team of 10 consultants and will have overall accountability to provide the business, human resource, and leadership necessary to assure the operational and functional effectiveness of the Risk Engineering Department

  This position can be hired at various levels depending on experience.

  Responsibilities:

  The Managing Director is responsible for the oversight and delivery of consultative Risk Engineering solutions for our internal and external customers Leadership of remote field Risk Engineering Consultants in territory i.e., selection, training, mentoring, development, and evaluation of staffProvide overall direction of Risk Engineering services to The Hartford's Underwriting Business Segments. Includes resource management, business development support, strategic planning, influencing positive outcomes and managing change.Executes on business model in delivering quality services. Leads staff through business process changes.

  Qualifications:

  Minimum 7 years of Risk Engineering, safety and/or field underwriting experienceCurrent or previous field leadership experience with an insurance carrierKnowledge of insurance coverage and insurance underwriting process requiredStrategic thinking skills, including development of strong business objectives that include a clear vision and direction for staff.Leadership skills, including planning, influencing skills, relationship building, mentoring and development of staffExhibits the skills to drive Risk Engineering services in a consultative selling and business consulting approach.Management experience inclusive of driving measurable outcomes is a plus.Bachelor's degree, preferably in engineering, science, or safety.Currently holding or actively pursuing professional designation such as CSP, ARM, CPCU highly desirableHighly motivated with strong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to develop effective business relationshipsComfort in performing analytical analysis and strategic planningStrong working knowledge of Risk Management practices balanced with a strong sales acumenBroad-based knowledge with risk management and Risk Engineering technical disciplines. Work experience in Risk Engineering is a must.Strong computer skills are needed across the MS Office Suite of products.

  Additional physical requirements and/or environmental conditions not mentioned above:

  Must be able to work in a seated position up to 4-8 hours a day, ability to operate a motor vehicle, stand and walk to a significant degree. Stooping and bending is also required for this job.Lifting 20 lbs. maximum with some lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 lbs.Ability to access building roofs and other elevated locations during Risk Engineering Surveys. Must be able to climb stairs and/or ladders.Ability to work in outside uncontrolled environmental conditions and ability to work safely in a wide variety of customer environments that may contain physical conditions, such as: exposure to extreme heat or cold, chemicals, electrical current and moving mechanical parts.Day travel and 20-30% of overnight travel are required. Ability to travel over for work via air, rail, or automobile.

  Compensation

  The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

  $123,600 - $185,400
