Job Summary: The primary responsibility of the Resident Counselor is to provide direct support and skill building to people diagnosed with mental illness at the Enriched Living Center, a 52-bed OMH-certified residence.Essential Job FunctionsInteract with the residents as frequently as possible in order to build trust and rapport. Promote, model and teach acceptable social behaviors to the residents. Monitor the security camera system to maintain a safe environment. Teach the residents with: personal hygiene, laundering, and social skills. Prompt and assist residents to maintain the cleanliness of their rooms. Assist in housekeeping duties, and oversee the cleaning of residents’ rooms, as necessary. Monitor medications with the residents: supervise the self-administration of medications by residents. Perform hourly rounds of the building by checking doors, windows, alarms, and looking for liquid spills, etc. Minimum Job QualificationsHigh school diploma (or equivalent), preferably with one year of experience with the severely and persistently mentally ill population.
