About the Department
The Genomics Facility provides access to advanced genetics and genomicstechnologies to University of Chicago researchers. These technologiesinclude Single-Cell Genomics, Spatial Transcriptomics, Next-GenerationSequencing, Micro-arrays, Sanger Sequencing as well as general nucleicacid sample QC and processing. The Facility is well-supported by theDean\'s office and fulfills an essential role in the continued academicsuccess of the University of Chicago.
Job Summary
The job performs routine assignments related to scientific researchprojects. Ensures compliance of research activities with institutional,state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives andmandates. Analyzes possible solutions using standard procedures. Writesarticles, reports and manuscripts. Assists in drafting presentations onresearch findings.
The Sanger Sequencing sub-unit of the Genomics Facility has existed for20-plus years and offers services ranging from sequencingclient-provided DNA templates to performing plasmid preps onclient-provided colony plates and moving these DNA templates forward tosequencing. This position provides expert technical support andexecution of the Sanger sequencing and plasmid preparation services.Additionally, this position will need to be able to perform other Corerelated services as needed.
Responsibilities
80% Processing client-supplied samples via the Sanger sequencing datacollection workflow (bench):
Process sample intake documents, set up Sanger sequencing reactions,perform sequencing reaction cleanups.Operate ABI3730xl and related equipment.Proficient in colony picking, bacterial culture, and plasmidpreparation.Work closely with other facility staff to ensure timely delivery ofsamples to PIs.(20%) Other Facility related functions as needed:
Uses subject matter and best practices knowledge to performlab-related duties and tasks.Rigorous record keeping of bench work and status of client\'sorders.Update clients on project progress as needed.Maintains technical and administrative support for a researchproject.Installs, sets up and performs experiments; interacting withstudents and other laboratory staff under the direction of theprincipal investigator.Performs other related work as needed.Minimum Qualifications
