Job Summary
The Mitchell Lab seeks a Research Specialist 1 to join ournewly-established team. We investigate the dynamic and mechanicalmechanisms of visceral organ development in vivo using advancedmicroscopy and computational methods. As the new lab member gainsexperience, they are expected to manage an independent project involvinggenetics and microscopy, in addition to working with other lab membersto support the lab\'s day-to-day operational and research needs asneeded. The candidate is expected to have sufficient flexibility withher/his working hours so that experiments can be pursued efficiently.
Responsibilities
Maintains and orders equipment and supplies.Conducts literature reviews.Assists in organizing and managing the laboratory, includingtechnical documentation and instrument maintenance.Oversees specimen husbandry, including maintaining Drosophilamelanogaster and Danio rerio stocks, and oversees genetic crosses.Presents research findings at staff meetings, seminars, andscientific conferences.Assists with data management and data processing pipelines involvinghigh performance computing.Modifies and develops computer code, uses analysis software formicroscopy datasets.Operates advanced microscopes.Helps monitor compliance with institutional, state, and federalregulatory policies, procedures, directives, and mandates.May orient or coordinate the work of research support staff andstudents.Provides technical and administrative support for a researchproject.Collects and enters data. Assists in analyzing data. Assists withpreparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.Assists with the installation, sets up and performs experiments;interacting with students and other laboratory staff under thedirection of the principal investigator.Performs other related work as needed.Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships or theequivalent experience in related field (not typically required to have afour-year degree).

Bachelor\'s degree in Biology, Biophysics, Physics, Engineering, orother related field.Experience:
Prior work experience in a laboratory.Experience in conducting research.Experience in developing and evaluating new experimental methods.Knowledge of standard research techniques relevant to developmentalbiology, microscopy, and computational data analysisKnowledge of MATLAB and/or python.Experience with ImageJ.Experience with microscopy.Preferred Competencies
