The mission of the Center for Molecular & Behavioral Neuroscience (CMBN) of School of Arts & Sciences, Newark (SASN) is to advance understanding of the brain's structure and function through excellence in neuroscience research and training.
Our researchers pursue this goal through an integrative approach that cuts across the boundaries of traditional disciplines. They combine molecular, electrophysiological, neurochemical, anatomical, imaging, behavioral, and neuropsychological methods to analyze how the brain works, develops, interacts with the environment, and is modified by experience in health and disease. CMBN is also committed to serving the academic and surrounding Newark communities through educational outreach, community service, and research internship programs that train undergraduate and high school students.
Posting Summary
Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Research Project Coordinator II. Reporting directly to the Principal Investigator (PI) in the Gluck Lab at the Center of Molecular & Behavioral Neuroscience (CMBN) in the School of Arts & Sciences-Newark (SASN), the position assists the PI with the management and coordination of day-to-day laboratory activities including, but not limited to, recruitment of human subjects, administering assessments and experiments, and collection and management of research data.This position is responsible for and not limited to the following
  • Assists with writing lab publications including subject recruitment materials, grant proposals, scientific articles, and textbooks.
  • Transports genetic material to external laboratories for analysis.
  • Participates in all laboratory trainings and meetings.
  • Trains and supervises laboratory members on the lab experiments and use of laboratory equipment.
  • Works closely with research assistants, undergraduate and graduate students, and postdoctoral staff.
  • Ensures the policies and procedures of the lab, CMBN, SASN and RU-N are followed.
  • Perform professional work that requires knowledge of general laboratory experiments and practices, as well as specific knowledge of the University policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to multitask in a fast-paced, stakeholder-focused environment with an understanding of the mission, vision, role, and goals of the lab, CMBN, SASN, and RU-N, and the role the tasks and responsibilities of this position play in the achievement of these goals.

  Qualifications

  

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a bachelor's degree in neuroscience or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant research experience.
  • Requires a minimum of two years of relevant experience in an administrative function, good communication, and interpersonal skills.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have a basic knowledge of the particular research discipline; skills are normally acquired through an accumulation of work experience and/or specific work-related training programs.
  • Must participate in any relevant University training including, but not limited to, Protection of Minors, CITI Certification, Biosafety Training Certification, IATA (International Air Transport Association) Training Certification for transportation of human specimens.
  • Good communication skills, including strong writing, editing, as well as computer literacy are required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience managing a lab and with an Institutional Review Board (IRB).
Equipment Utilized
  • Regularly uses MS Office Suite, Cornerstone, Office 365, RAPSS, IRB submission system, and any and all systems Rutgers University (RU) uses for research and grant submission and administration; general administration; safety; access; scheduling, facilities and space management; reporting; project management; in-house applications, and any database or program utilized by the University to perform the duties of this position now or in the future. Must be familiar with or learn all the equipment, software, and specialized programs and/or materials needed to support the effective and efficient performance of this position.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Laboratory environment.
  • Meets and escorts research participants to/from data collection locations.
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 30 pounds.
  • Transports supplies and materials to community events and other locations in personal vehicle.
