Key Functions
Core Administration Management: (40%)
Manages the overall administration of the Single Cell Core to include workflow issues, administrative issues, operations, and strategic planning issues.
Maintains the quality and timeliness of all research laboratory operations within budgetary guidelines.
Supervises assigned laboratory staff.
Participates in planning, hiring, disciplinary process, counseling and development of staff.
Participates in the selection and evaluation of employees.
Trains new staff on the Core process, use of equipment and technologies uses by the Core
Submits requests for the purchase of consumables and reagents.
Records non-personnel expenses and program income generated.
Tracks, communicates and follows up with customer about billing and payments.
Records and evaluates data in accordance with methods requested.
Writes protocols and performs molecular biology experiments.
Oversees the administrative responsibilities associated with collecting human tumor samples.
Maintains records of human samples received, data produced and their location.
Prepares request to the Technology Task Force (TTF)
Prepares the billing via iLabs for monthly processing
As needed, defines and develops reports according to laboratory needs.
Core Operations: (50%)
Uses laboratory knowledge and expertise to identify and resolve core operational issues and interacts with all levels of internal and external sources to resolve problems.
Conducts laboratory research projects which include: Tissue sectioning: Microtome or Cryostat.Tissue Staining - e.g. HE stain. Tissue and cell imaging techniques.
Modifies and/or develops new techniques.
Prepares libraries for spatial genomic sequencing.
Performs tissue and cell culture work.
PCR, qPCR, DNA, RNA isolation and Quality Control.
Performs next-generation sequencing experiments.
Develops and tests new spatial genomic technologies for DNA, RNA and epigenomic analysis.
Runs Xenium and Visium (10X Genomics) experiments.
Works with data scientists to process and review datasets.
Constructs, assembles and operates laboratory apparatus and equipment.
Assists with the maintenance of laboratory equipment and the overall organization of the lab.
Safety Regulatory Compliance: (10%)
Ensures laboratory adherence with Environmental Health and Safety policies
Ensures that the Core Facility is prepared for inspections and/or accreditations
Works closely with departmental lab supervisor to ensure compliance with state/federal and institutional guidelines in the labeling, storage, use and disposal materials used by the Core
Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and protocols for the overall operation of the Core

EDUCATION
Required: Bachelor's degree.
Preferred: Master's degree.
EXPERIENCE
Required: Seven years experience in scientific, research or clinical laboratory, to include four years in a supervisory/managerial capacity. With preferred degree, five years of required experience to include four years in a supervisory/managerial capacity. Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate and/or LEADing Self Discover programs may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience. Completion of both programs can be substituted for a maximum of two years of supervisory or management experience.
Preferred: Experience in a molecular biology laboratory with two years experience as laboratory coordinator and a strong background in genomic technologies.

Required: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
