Job Responsibilities:
Participate and contribute to weekly engineering staff meetings where concepts, models and research plans for next-generation additive manufacturing technologies are developed.
Design, analyze and evaluate electro-mechanical systems using CAD/CAE/CAM software.
Build, test, and troubleshoot the additive manufacturing equipment that has been designed. Communicate results and recommendations to research team.
Supervise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students working on funded research projects.
Collaborate with vendors when equipment and components need to be ordered for the machines that are being built in the AMPrint Center. Assist with managing research laboratory.
Contribute as needed to AMPrint Center marketing and outreach activities by hosting lab tours, meeting with visitors, etc.
Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a mechanical engineering or related field. Three years of experience in electro-mechanical systems design of additive manufacturing, 3D printing equipment, or related field
OR
Master’s degree in a mechanical engineering or related field. Experience in electro-mechanical systems design of additive manufacturing, 3D printing equipment, or related field strongly preferred.
Skills:
Computer aided design (CAD/CAE/CAM software)
Finite element analysis
Basic electrical skills, including circuit board layout, wiring, power electronics, etc.
Computer programming in C/C++, Python, and/or similar languages
Machine controller operation
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in a mechanical engineering or related field. Experience in electro-mechanical systems design of additive manufacturing, 3D printing equipment, or related field strongly preferred.OR

Job Summary:
The AMPrint Center conducts industry and government funded research involving additive manufacturing and 3D printing (AM/3DP) processes, materials, and applications. The Research Scientist/Mechanical Engineer in this position will help invent next-generation additive manufacturing processes, and will then design. build, and test complex electro-mechanical systems that turn those inventions into functioning machines. This engineer will also play a key role in conducting research activities connected with funded and internally initiated research projects.
