Rehabilitation Counselors in theVeterans Health Administration (VHA) work with persons who experiencefunctional impairments and disabilities associated with mental health,physical, and/or psychosocial challenges affecting employment,independent living, or personal adjustment. Duties include, but are notlimited to the following: Serves as an entry or journey levelRehabilitation Counselor providing personal adjustment counseling,therapeutic rehabilitation interventions, and case coordinationservices. Provides Individual Placement and Support SupportedEmployment, integrated within a treatment team. Uses evidence-informedand evidence-based modalities to aid Veterans with severe disabilities,such as physical, psychosocial, psychological, or neurological barriers,integrate successfully into the community. Serves Veterans who havemyriad barriers to overcome and achieve competitive employment,educational, and independent living goals. Uses effective counselingskills to promote self-awareness, adjustment to disability, enhanced jobretention and successful integration to the community. Conductbiopsychosocial assessments using medical records, pertinent disabilitydocumentation, observation and interviews with Veterans and theirsupport systems to generate personal, vocational, and educationalhistories. Selects, administers, and interprets vocational and otherpsychometric instruments to evaluate abilities, transferrable skills,functional capacity, labor market analyses, aptitudes, interests,values, preferences, and overall work resilience and synthesize into aninterpretive data report.
