Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The main responsibility of this position is Regulatory Affairs, being approximately 50-65% of the workload, followed by Environmental Management initiatives with about 20-30%, and Health and Safety Management with 15-20% of the workload.
Responsibilities
Regulatory Affairs: o Develop and maintain procedures to ensure regulatory compliance with government regulations.
o Respond to requests from governmental bodies. Review notifications of activity when they occur. Receive copies of governmental reports from such activities and ensure facility retains appropriate documentation relative to the inspections, and timely completion of any corrective actions
o Coordinate the application of environmental permits, prepare reports, and ensure compliance with regulations.
o Respond to BCG customer requests, questionnaires, and inquiries regarding regulatory matters, providing accurate and relevant information.
o Assist in the development of audit procedures, reporting and checklists to assess compliance with regulatory requirements.
o Prepare and maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and Labels for all products within the company and assist other companies, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
o Evaluate products and raw materials for compliance including any reporting requirements with various regulations such as FDA, CONEG, ROHS, CEPA (DSL lists), TSCA, or other relevant chemical inventories and review if they will have any environmental impact or require permits.
o Support regulatory and internal audits at the facilities. Ensure that appropriate documentation is maintained and recommend revisions or actions to take as needed to achieve or exceed compliance.
o Establish chemical security plans, where required. Ensure facilities that import and/or manufacture substances are in compliance with TSCA including TSCA reporting requirements.
o Ensure compliance with Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) and DOT regulations, including maintenance of CHEMTREC and CANUTEC registration.
o Staying current. Obtain and maintain copies of applicable government (Federal, State, and County) regulations pertaining to Health, Safety, and Environment (HS&E). Monitor regulatory changes to stay informed and updated.
o Determine National Motor Freight Class (NMFC) and Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes for products in compliance with trade regulations.
Environmental Management:o Ensure waste management practices at all BCG locations comply with regulations, including responsible disposal of emissions to air, water, and other mediums.
o Prepare and/or assist in ensuring plans needed for environmental requirements are prepared and in compliance with the regulations.
o Propose and spearhead execution of BCG long-term environmental (E of ESG) goals around energy consumption and reduction of greenhouse gases.
o Prepare and/or assist in ensuring governmental reports for environmental are completed and submitted on time.
o Develop plans and strategies to reduce waste generation, collaborating with internal teams and seeking external expertise when necessary.
o Research out and assess vendors for recycling, disposal, and other environmental services for the BCG to ensure compliance and responsible practices.
o Assist with the ISO 14001 programs for BCG.
o Assist the plants and/or coordinate in the application of environmental permits as needed.
Health and Safety (H&S) Management:o Provide guidance and assistance in the development, implementation and maintenance of H&S programs and policies which are in compliance with the Corporate Environmental, Health and Safety Policy.
o Support the development of H&S programs, review procedures, and promote best practices for minimizing injuries and hazards.
o Assist facilities in the development of the SHEER Manual (Safety, Health, Environmental, Emergency Response) with a primary responsibility for reviewing rules, regulations, best practices and determining resources. Assist in the review and editing of procedures.
o Collect and report safety metrics across all BCG manufacturing facilities.
o Stay updated on federal, state/provincial, and municipal regulations related to H&S and provide information to ensure facilities’ compliance.
o Serve as a member of H&S Committees at all BCG manufacturing facilities, ensuring H&S committees fulfil their duties and the meetings cover relevant topics, improve employee engagement, and provide continuous improvement.
o Recommend courses in Health/Safety and Environmental for personnel. Attend meetings, webinars, classes, and conferences to develop an awareness of upcoming changes and potential opportunities.
o Establish and/or assist in developing or implementing practices regarding Hazard and Risk Analysis, assist in developing plans as needed to take corrective actions.
o Provide input and help ensure that H,S and E committees are working towards continuous improvement specific to each facility.
o Determine corrective or preventative measures were indicated and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented.
o Assist facilities in minimizing injuries, providing options, recommending programs or other methods to help reduce injury and the potential for injury.
o Represent the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs as needed.
Other duties as assigned.This position will have some autonomy to work offering progress updates and reviewing projects with the Director of Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance. This position will not have any direct reports but will need to work collaboratively with all supervisors, and other managers in both office locations. This position will also have some reporting requirement to the local Plant or Production Managers and the VP of R&D Technology.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:
Education and Qualifications:
• Master’s and/or Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or Chemical Science or equivalent
• Certificate in the field of HSE
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in Environmental/Regulatory Affairs including experience with ISO 14001 in a manufacturing or chemical related field.
• Working knowledge of FDA 21 CFR and how that relates to the products we promote.
• Working knowledge in the field of HSE
Skills and Experience:
• Manage effective relationships to complete projects/programs
• Knowledge of federal, state/provincial, and municipal regulations related to health, safety, regulatory compliance and environmental practices.
• Strong organizational, leadership and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects.
• Strong computer literacy.
• Ability to work well with diverse teams, exhibit a proactive and goal-oriented approach, and maintain organization and attention to detail.
• Able to travel between Canada and the US sites, attend meetings, webinars, courses, and conferences for professional development.
